Smart Wires is currently looking for a US-based Compliance Manager to join our Legal team.

The Position

Smart Wires is looking for a Compliance Manager who will work closely with our General Counsel and other members of the Smart Wires leadership team to develop and maintain an effective, practical compliance and risk management program. You will be responsible for ensuring the companys compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations and company policies. This position will grow as the company grows.

This is an ideal role if youre an attorney or compliance/risk management professional looking to use your existing skills and develop a broader in-house practice. Well provide great training and support, and we expect you to be a self-starter who can take responsibility for areas/functions and grow into managing them independently. As Compliance Manager, you will be a member of the legal team and report to the General Counsel.

Primary Responsibilities

* Ensure the company and its employees are in compliance with the rules and regulations of applicable regulatory agencies, that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization is consistent with the companys standards of conduct.
* Periodically review risk and compliance programs in light of changes in the needs of the organization, and any changes in law and regulations. Identify potential areas of vulnerability and risk; recommend corrective action plans for resolution. Develop, facilitate and execute an enterprise risk management program.
* Coordinate and participate in training programs that focus on the elements of compliance and seek to ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of and comply with all the relevant compliance program requirements
* Partner with other teams throughout the company, including the People and Finance Teams, to manage risks and address any compliance violations.
* Provide regular reports to keep the Board and senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts, and help manage a quarterly risk review with participation by senior management.
* Develop processes to scale compliance and risk management operations for growth.
* Form close working relationships with teams throughout the company and work with them to spot, manage, and solve potential issues.
* Provide timely, practical and business-savvy advice to stakeholders throughout the company.

Requirements

* 10+ years of experience helping companies to manage their compliance and risk management programs.
* Commercial, flexible approach.
* Comfort in learning and developing compliance programs in new jurisdictions and regulatory frameworks.

Desired Skills and Experience

* You have experience working internationally and/or on matters that involve foreign laws, especially the EU Market Abuse Regulation and anti-corruption laws in major foreign jurisdictions.
* You hold a JD from an accredited law school and membership in at least one state Bar in good standing.

* Youre a collaborative teammate and intuitively understand when to take direction and when to apply your own judgment.
* You are an exceptionally strong communicator: you share updates/findings/advice in a clear, succinct, and organized manner (whether verbally or in writing) and appropriately tailor your communication to your audience.
* Your analytical and problem-solving skills are among your greatest strengthswell regularly ask you to develop solutions to issues you (and the company) are seeing for the first time.
* You have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to generate and manage systemsyoull deploy these skills to help us to systematize the legal function as we grow.
* You have experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating transactional agreements and will be prepared to jump into using these skills both on types of agreements youve worked on before and, with our help, ones that are new to you.
* You can read a spreadsheet, build a deck, and analyze and communicate information into effective messaging for senior executives.
* You have great commercial judgment and take a practical approach to analyzing risks.
* You recognize what you know or can find out and have both the humility and confidence to acknowledge when to bring in another resource.
* You act like an owner and you take initiative by being proactive and resourceful.
* Youre curious, a quick study, and comfortable working in a growing company environment where youll work creatively to solve problemsnot just follow an existing playbook.
* Youre motivated to make a positive, long-lasting impact on climate change.

Location

* The reporting location will be at the Smart Wires headquarters based in the Research Triangle Park north of Raleigh, North Carolina, with the ability to work remotely when workload dictates.

Safety Requirements
