As a Research Scientist, you will design, develop, and test innovative robotic technology for next-generation ABB products. You'll have the opportunity to make an impact on the world by solving real world robotic challenges, working collaboratively with other team members in ABB's global R&D community and with ABB's partners in universities and industries. Your responsibilities
- Explore new technologies in Computer vision, machine learning and vision-based robot manipulation; create and present new project proposals
- Conduct literature survey and benchmarking analysis to assess state of art methods for a given problem
- Develop technical requirements and create effective solutions for real world robotic applications
- Develop and implement computer algorithms in perception, planning, and control to enable creation of autonomous robotics
- Perform debugging, testing and validating of core software algorithms in a mock-up or full-blown setups
- Deliver the developed solution to Business and provide support for production development
- Prepare internal and external technical reports, presentations, and publications
- Write invention disclosures and provide technical inputs for patent filings
- Represent ABB in professional conferences and other industry events
Your background
- Master's degree in the fields of computer vision, machine learning or vision-based robot manipulation required, or a MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline is required
- PhD in Robotics, Computer Vision or directly related technologies is strongly preferred
- Must have the equivalent of 1-2 of years of experience in Robotics Technology
- Strong background in deep neural networks for computer vision.
- Knowledge of robotics in general, robot kinematics, motion planning, grasping and SLAM, in particular is a plus
- Knowledge of deep reinforcement learning is a plus.
- Experience with object segmentation, object detection and 6D pose estimation.
- Experience with 3D point cloud processing using traditional and deep learning techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and C++ is required; minimum of 1-3 years of coding experience preferred
- Proficiency in PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV and Open3D is preferred, as well as 1- 2 years of coding experience
- Experience with industrial robot applications, collaborative robotics, sensor-based control, and mobile manipulator is a plus
- Experience with ROS, PCL, Blender, Unity and/or Nvidia Isaac is a plus
- Must have demonstrated ability to learn new technology and tools quickly
- Effective communications in English, team collaboration skills and networking ability is required
- Proven ability to deliver on commitments, with high quality and on schedule
- Demonstrated use of creativity and innovation in creating new technology and solutions.
