Job description
Riverside Research is seeking a Microelectronic Research Scientist to perform embedded systems security R&D. Tasks include contributing to the development of a collegiate Embedded Capture the Flag (eCTF) challenge held annually. This role requires competency in both embedded field programmable gate array (FPGA) and microprocessor development. Ideal candidates will have proven expertise in cybersecurity or implementation attacks including side-channel and glitching. This position is located in our Dayton Research Center in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Job Responsibilities:
- Researches advanced implementation attacks and countermeasures by reviewing open literature, attending conferences, and training courses
- Creates and implements R&D plans
- Recommends software and hardware purchases
- Plans, sets up, and implements physical vulnerability studies
- Collaborate with technical leadership to write proposals for new R&D projects in microelectronics security
- Report findings in technical reports and program review presentations
- Coordinates with external partners to develop eCTF challenges, administer the competition, and recruit University students and faculty to the competition

Required Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or comparable STEM field
- Experience with digital circuit design using Verilog, VHDL, or SystemC
- Experience bare-metal programming microcontrollers or microprocessors
- Proficiency in C, C++, or Python
- Proficient in creating technical reports and presentations
- Experience using revision control software
- Excellent public speaking skills and ability to present technically complex topics to large groups
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with Assembly code and programming microcontrollers
- Experience reverse engineering software binaries
- Experience working with processor emulators including QEMU
- Experience with virtualization tools including VirtualBox or Docker
- Experience with implementation attacks including side-channel analysis or glitching
- Understanding of cryptographic algorithms and protocols
