Job Summary

We are seeking an animal care team lead role for our safety assessment group located in Ashland Ohio.

Responsible for organizing, scheduling and coordinating animal husbandry and cage washing duties
throughout the facility for their assigned team. Provide leadership, technical guidance, and serve as a
mentor to less experienced staff. Assist department management with oversight and daily supervision
of husbandry duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evaluate, coordinate and assign animal care and cage washing staff to assigned daily
functions.
• Oversee the conduct of appropriate husbandry practices at the site.
• Promote inter- and intra-departmental communication in order to facilitate and maximize
performance associated with animal husbandry functions.
• Perform cage wash, animal husbandry and any other duties necessary to ensure proper care of
the laboratory animals. Ensure animal environment is maintained in accordance with all
applicable SOPs.
• Ensure that departmental equipment is maintained in good working condition and that
departmental area(s) are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
• Inspect feeding and watering devices for proper function.
• Perform all tasks in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (GLPs) and
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
• Monitor room records daily to assure that the animal data is present and complete.
• Orders supplies as needed.
• Work with department supervisor to develop new techniques and/or processes.
• Provide guidance in the day to day activities to team members to ensure accurate, high-quality
work, and adherence to pertinent departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs,
safety procedures and biosafety protocols].
• Assist supervisor to prioritize workload of assigned group. Ensure schedule is prepared daily,
accurately reflecting group and laboratory tasks and workload.
• Assist in the interview and selection of qualified non-exempt personnel.
• Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of departmental training programs.
• Assist in the maintenance and communication of departmental systems and SOPs.
• Serve as a model as it relates to effective time management, communication and utilization of
resources. Provide leadership and motivation to departmental personnel.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required. Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal science or related discipline preferred.
• Experience: 1-2 years related experience in animal research and/or husbandry preferred or must have demonstrated full knowledge of competencies and positive performance at the previous level. Experience working in a regulated environment preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
