The Associate Chemist position in our Automotive division is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new technologies and new platforms in our high performance coatings.
CORE RESPONSIBILITES
• Contribute to the Vehicle Refinish Toner Development Team with a focus on Color Quality through the development of new toners and/or providing quality enhancements to existing products.
• Working closely with a mentor chemist developing, reformulating, maintaining and enhancing products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
• Display a basic working knowledge of the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrate preparation and use instruments commonly found in a lab environment
• Responsible for inputting data, data analysis and technical documentation daily into lab books or a database.
• Functioning under substantial supervision, but may lead individual or group projects. Develop and/or enhance products with consistency in performance and quality.
• Utilizing advanced technologies to develop products that demonstrate improvements and difference that consumer can perceive and will desire.
• Performing basic paint making processes, meets manufactures specifications
• Performing basic coating formulations, applications and physical/performance testing methods
• Providing timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development
• Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne acrylic, alkyd, epoxy and urethane chemistries
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Application and troubleshooting of automotive refinish coatings
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
• Math knowledge
• Chemistry knowledge
• Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
• Excellent organization and planning skills
• Team- oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
• Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Polymers and Coatings
• 1-2 years formulation experience in an industrial or academic setting
• Possess an understanding of color science and experience with color measurement and analysis
• Experience working with products and technologies including, but not limited to, Vehicle Refinish basecoats and single stage coatings
• Experience formulating robust pigment dispersions
• Knowledge of and experience with DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) methodology and tool usage
• Experience working with DOE, Minitab, Product Vision, and Navigator
Travel Requirement: 5%
