The Associate Scientist will:

  • Function as Study Director for product evaluations and research involving animate, inanimate, and cadaveric models.
  • Provide surgical support during research, development and evaluation utilizing animate, inanimate and cadaveric models.
  • Perform research and testing which support development of products or procedures in minimally invasive surgery.
  • Assisting or conducting surgical investigations for product development and preclinical evidence generation.
  • Coordinating appropriate and accurate documentation of laboratory activities to ensure study integrity.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of biomedical research and development are upheld and carried out by meeting the standards of United States Department of Agriculture, Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, J&J Animal Use Policies and Good Laboratory Practice guidelines

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for ensuring executional excellence of preclinical studies performed at Preclinical Research facilities on several platforms within a franchise.
  • Facilitate support for the conduct, monitoring and reporting, of preclinical studies via the coordination of communications, paperwork, and test/control article logistics between the study coordinator and project leaders for several platforms within a franchise.
  • Accountable for the drafting of study protocols and reports for assigned studies. Partners with the project leaders and contributing scientists to incorporate input into protocols and reports.
  • Accountable IACUC protocol development and its approval to meet study deadline.
  • Accountable for ensuring all data forms are drafted, completed and incorporated into the final report.
  • Conducts pre-study meeting with study related staff to train to protocol.
  • Partners closely with contract staff (Research Assistants and Surgical Vet Technicians) assigned to studies to ensure that study related tasks according the study protocol to ensure executional excellence.
  • Responsible for addressing audit findings associated with internal studies.
  • May serve as study surgeon and evaluate device prototypes per study protocols.


Qualifications
  • Bachelors /Master's degree in applicable field is desired.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience for associate degree / or equivalent candidates
  • Minimum 4 years of experience for bachelor degree candidates
  • Minimum 2 years of experience for master degree candidates
  • Technical knowledge of medical device technologies in several platforms is required.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of in vivo preclinical study conduct is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and develop relationships with project leaders to facilitate study execution is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills - written/oral/listening.
  • Knowledge of animal and human anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrated surgical expertise during research, development and evaluation utilizing animate, inanimate and cadaveric models.
  • Successfully initiating and completing Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee paperwork (i.e. animal requests, etc.) and closure of study files in a timely manner
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Able to articulate scientific basis for decisions to project team partners
