Job Opportunity - Finance Director with the City of Washington Court House, OH

Washington Court House is a city in Fayette County, Ohio. It is the county seat of Fayette County and is centrally located between Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton. The area was originally settled by Virginia war veterans who received the land from the government as payment for their service in the American Revolution. In 2002, a new charter was adopted, officially changing the name to the "City of Washington Court House" (Charter). The name is often abbreviated as "Washington C.H." We also have numerous locations in the city that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We are seeking our next Director of Finance due to the impending retirement of the current Director of over 30 years. We have an excellent bond rating and are financially very sound. As the Director of Finance with the City of Washington CH, you will manage the Finance Department while reporting to City Council. You will work in partnership with the City Manager and the leadership of the various City Departments to develop and manage the overall city budget, prepare, and submit monthly statements and other financial reporting, as well maintain all sources of revenue and the disbursement of City funds.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • At least seven years of increasingly responsible experience in executive level financial administration in the government sector.
  • A Master's degree in accounting, finance, public administration, or related field is preferred.
  • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of best financial practices governing municipal financial management, including GASB principles, fund accounting, capital project financing and revenue, and expense considerations related to development.
  • Familiar with Grants/Bonds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, elected and appointed officials.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and train department staff in a focused and effective manner.
