Description

We are seeking a creative, team oriented person with strong background in analytical chemistry, excellent organizational and communications skills to support the Analytical Science & Technology team of the Colors Technology Department in Cincinnati Ohio. Our activities are critical to new product development, quality control and problem resolution. We provide technical support and expertise to external customers and to internal customers including R&D, Manufacturing, Technical Service, Regulatory and EH&S of Sun Chemical in the U.S. and globally.

  • Development of new analytical procedures, new techniques, reverse engineering, and measurement technologies for characterizing and evaluating the quality and performance of our products and raw materials.
  • Demonstrates leadership in promoting a safe workplace by active participation in safety improvement, best practices GLP and incident reporting/evaluation.
  • Under the general direction of the manager, is responsible for developing new analytical methods and refining existing methods using sound scientific techniques and continuous improvement tools in order to improve quality, accuracy, precision and speed of analysis.
  • Performs analyses, evaluates and interprets results and reports in a timely fashion to requests from manufacturing, customers, R&D, environmental and regulatory departments and other Sun Chemical Divisions/locations.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots instruments, interacts with instrument suppliers to keep current with new developments in instrumentation and to resolve equipment problems.
  • Performs literature searches to keep current with new developments in Analytical Chemistry.
  • Interfaces/collaborates with other analysts, Colors Technology Group and Technical Groups within Sun Chemical to enhance team work and accomplish tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Performs calibrations of instruments as required by ISO 9001.
  • May perform other duties as required.


Position Requirements

  • Bachelors or MS of Science in Chemistry with emphasis on analytical chemistry with 10 years experience, or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or Physical organic chemistry with 3 years experience.
  • Experience in the use of GC/MS, LC/MS, MS, HPLC, ICP-OES, UV-Vis and FTIR is required.
  • Experience in UPLC, Electron Microscopy, XRD is a plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pigment science and color science is desired, but not required.
  • Good communication skills and computer skills. Microsoft Office Suite software (Excel, MS Word, Power Point.)
