Job description

Position Summary:

The IT Systems Analyst will serve as the primary data architect, systems analyst, business analyst, and database administrator for Antioch College enterprise IT systems.


Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Serving as primary database administrator for College databases, and helping create and ensure upholding of rules surrounding the nature and methods of data creation, access, use, modification, transmission, and deletion;
  • Serving as the primary developer working to extend and integrate enterprise systems;
  • Working with other offices/business units to appropriately specify/scope and select appropriate IT systems and make related decisions;
  • Identifying the right third-party applications to procure and when to avoid third-party applications in favor of further in-house software development and configuration;
  • Analyzing problems and inefficiencies in IT systems and working toward improving both business and technical practices to optimize use of systems;
  • Making recommendations to the Sr. Director of Facilities and Technology, especially concerning information architecture, IT infrastructure, and IT service strategy;
  • Functioning as key business analyst and reports developer to ensure end-user IT workflow and data needs are optimally addressed;
  • Coordinating closely with system administrator(s) to ensure the day-to-day management of enterprise systems conforms appropriately with best practices for the architecture and ensuring uptime, maintenance, data backup, security, and related procedures are in place and followed appropriately;
  • Overseeing and assisting in major nontechnical and some technical aspects of new systems implementations;
  • Other responsibilities as directed
  • The IT Systems Analyst will maintain strong working relationships with other members of the Office of IT, the rest of the College community, current and potential vendors, and IT user communities as is appropriate to accomplish these goals.


Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work variable hours, including evening or weekend hours, may be preferred but is not necessary.
  • Assist with other projects when called to do so, including but not limited to:
  • Implementation of new applications and services;
  • Routine reviews of security precautions and practices;
  • Management of data backups;
  • Assistance with systems integration;
  • Provision of routine desktop support for users.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or closely related field; or Associate degree with additional relevant work experience.
  • Five or more years of experience including an appropriate combination of database administration, application development, systems design, business analysis, system administration, and IT management.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Relevant ITIL, CompTIA, PMP, Microsoft, and related certifications preferred


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with any or all of the following technologies strongly preferred: Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, SSO, Google Apps for Work, Google Apps Directory Sync, Citrix XenApp, Windows Server, CentOS, OS X Server, and at least one scripting language
  • Strong computer/technical skills, such as experience with multiple OS environments and command-line-based system administration; experience with power-/super-user techniques; familiarity with common data formats and file types and the conversion thereof; knowledge of security best-practices and common security oversights; good knowledge of IP suite protocols and especially web application concepts;
  • Ability to learn quickly and to read, comprehend, and precisely follow technical materials such as user guides and other documentation; a learn-while-doing attitude; good problem-solving skills; and the ability to remember and put to use both important details and big-picture thinking;
  • A risk-averse approach to handling data integrity and system uptime;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience with a wide range of computer technologies and administrative best practices;
  • General familiarity with current IT technologies and trends;
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, configuring, repairing, installing, etc., end-user computer software and hardware preferred;
  • Excellent customer service skills and instructional skills;
  • Experience with any or all of the following technologies strongly preferred: Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, SSO, Google Apps for Work, Google Apps Directory Sync, Citrix XenApp, Windows Server, CentOS, OS X Server, and at least one scripting language.
  • Experience managing and/or maintaining modern Student Information Systems (Blackboard, CAMS, SONISWeb, etc.) and Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Google Classroom, Moodle, etc.)


Environmental Considerations:

  • May occasionally require work in small spaces, uninhabited buildings, or uninhabited spaces of buildings; may require working with electronic equipment that, if mishandled, could present a shock risk.
  • Occasional requirement to move around campus and in other locations, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain experiencing local temperature and weather variations.
