Job description

Position Information: Provides assistance to a research laboratory staff by collecting and analyzing scientific data, keeping records, conducting literature and technical research, preparing reports, working with mice/laboratory specimens, performing general laboratory maintenance, handling human tissue and blood, and coordinating/assisting with laboratory experiments.

Essential Duties:

* Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects.

* Mouse handling (injections, weight measurement, scruffing, and humane euthansia.

* Conducts analyses of data. Interprets, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.

* Presents research material to fellow researchers and colleagues.

* Perform tissue cultures.

* Keeps record of information obtained during research. May include a database of information or hard files.

* Conducts research of the literature.

* Independently conducts technical research.

* Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication.

* Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests.

* Collaborates with other researchers.

* Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, or another scientific/related field.

Experience: 12 months research laboratory experience

Equivalent/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree or an Associate's Degree with 24 additional months of equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Working knowledge of how to handle biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State, and University regulations and guidelines.

* Mouse handling

* General laboratory maintenance

Preferences:

* Human tissue and blood handling experience

* Tissue culture experience

* PCR & qRTPCR experience

* ELISA / Luminex experience
