The Divisionof Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University(OSU) invites applications and nominations of energetic and visionaryindividuals for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Animaland Food Sciences. This 12-month appointment is administratively responsible tothe Vice President and Dean of OSU Agriculture.

Department Profile

With more than 1000undergraduate students, the Department has one of the largest undergraduateenrollments and scholarship programs on the OSU-Stillwater campus. Students maychoose to earn a B.S. degree in Animal Science (4 option areas), or FoodScience (4 emphasis areas). The Department offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs inAnimal Science and Food Science. Graduate enrollment totals approximately 70 students.The Department currently employs 28 faculty, 28 support staff and more than 80student employees.

Animal and Food Scienceshas a national and international reputation for excellence in teaching,research, and Extension. The Department maintains classrooms and laboratories, aswell as animal facilities i n support of its teaching, research,and extension activities. The Department operates more than 12,600 acres ofland and has outstanding purebred livestock numbers. Animal and Food Sciencesfaculty conduct research in animal facilities as well as labs in the AnimalScience Building, Noble Research Center and Robert M. Kerr Food andAgricultural Products Center.

Responsibilities

• Providevisionary leadership in planning, developing, integrating, and implementingdepartmental programs in teaching, research, and extension;

• Managethe Department's human, animal, financial, and physical resources

• Provideadministrative oversight to animal laboratory units;

• Leaddiversity efforts to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, staff, andstudents and help create an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality,and teamwork;

• Assignresponsibilities to faculty and staff and evaluate their performance;

• Fosterprofessional and academic growth and development of faculty, staff, andstudents;

• Pursueand encourage the pursuit of external grant and contract funding;

• Maintainan active role in regional and national organizations and committees;

• Representdepartmental and faculty interests to administrators, other academicdepartments, outside agencies, alumni, individuals, and groups in agriculture,industry, and communities;

• Collaboratewith Division unit heads and other University administrators and faculty inproviding leadership for delivering multidisciplinary programs to meet theneeds of students, extension, and research clientele, and researchsponsors;

• Assistdepartmental faculty and staff in developing programs and activities supportiveof the Department's and the Division's strategic plans; and

• Maintainan active role in seeking support and resources for departmental programs andcoordinating efforts for gift and endowment opportunities such as scholarships,graduate fellowships, and endowed chairs and professorships.

• Collaboratewith the Animal Science Alumni Association board as an ex officio member toenhance alumni relations and better the Animal and Food Sciences Department.

Qualifications

• Earneddoctorate in animal science, food science, or a closely related discipline;

• Outstandingrecord of scholarly achievement and professional activities related toteaching, research, and/or extension that will qualify the individual to betenured at the rank of Professor in the Department;

• Strongunderstanding of, and advocacy for, the mission of a land-grant university;

• Evidenceof administrative ability to direct an academic department engaged in teaching,research, and extension activities in a major land-grant university;

• Abilityto provide visionary and progressive leadership;

• Demonstratedability to effectively listen, communicate, and represent the Department withadministrators, agencies, and on- and off-campus interest groups;

• Excellentrapport and interactions with livestock and agricultural organizations,producers, food processors, and legislative leaders;

• Abilityto effectively manage human, financial, and physical resources;

• Demonstratedwillingness and ability to make timely decisions;

• Abilityto inspire others, relate to people, demonstrate strong communication skills, fosterprofessional development, assign responsibilities, and evaluate performance offaculty and staff;

• Strongcommitment to diversity in recruiting faculty, staff, and graduate andundergraduate students;

• Demonstratedknowledge of agricultural, economic, environmental, and social issues affectingproducers, business managers, consumers, and communities;

• Commitmentto international programs; and

• Commitmentto continue one's own professional and leadership development.

Salary: Commensuratewith qualifications.

The positionis to be filled by March 1, 2022, or as soon thereafter as a suitable candidateis available.
