A Brief Summary of This Position:

Reporting to the Senior Plant Manager for Tulsa with dotted line reporting to the Regional Controller, the Operations Financial Analyst is responsible for analytical support for the Tulsa and Claremore sites within the North America operations group. The position is responsible for the monitoring and reporting of operational metrics as defined by the operations leadership. Responsibilities will include coordinating with department managers in reviewing the information and assisting with identifying opportunities, reporting corrective actions, and measuring progress against those actions. This position is also responsible for providing ad hoc analysis to support operational financial forecasts, internal management reporting, providing financial guidance, benchmarking and monitoring of key performance indicators. The person in this role will work closely with the business personnel to understand and explain performance variances and trends. This role will also be responsible for working with Valmont Data Analytics, IT teams, and the accounting teams to systemize data collection, data usage, and data visualization for key reports. Finally, this position will be responsible for supporting the scorecard and other financial analytic functions for the Tulsa and Claremore sites.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports into the Senior Plant Manager for Tulsa with dotted line reporting to the Regional Controller and has no direct or indirect reports
  • Up to 10% domestic travel including overnight stays
  • Consolidates and regularly updates business unit financial reporting metrics for the Tulsa and Claremore sites
  • Prepares accurate, timely financial metric reports using Excel, IFS and other available sources that compare and analyze current results with budgeted results and future forecasts
  • Assists the site management and the Regional Controller with analyzes of the Annual Operating Plan as it relates to the operational metrics
  • Provides data-driven recommendations for costs reductions
  • Compiles financial information to support operational metrics reviews
  • Communicates operational analysis to site management in a clear, concise manner for informational and decision-making purposes
  • Updates business performance (KPI) metrics for measurement, comparison, and ongoing analysis in areas such as SCOT, specific costs, working capital levels, TME, productivity, and other operational measurements down to the department level
  • Makes recommendations on improvement of operational processes
  • Lead data refinement and improvement initiatives
  • Query, extract, sanitize & analyze data to help support financial and business decisions
  • Prepares operational financial measurement slides and supporting documentation for operational management
  • Prepares internal financial reports and supplemental financial information to assist operations in decision-making
  • Analyze data to identify trends and improvement ideas for the business
  • Track key cost drivers and analyze actual costs vs. targeted
  • Work with the site personnel to gather data and explanations to support analyses

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Data Analytics, or Finance with 3+ years relevant experience or Associate's Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Two years of experience in a manufacturing environment with an annual revenue base of $50M or greater
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel and Power Point skills
  • High business acumen, creativity and analytical thinking and with proficiency in data visualization and dashboard skills (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
  • Strong accounting and finance skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Highly motivated and self-directed worker with the ability to work independently within the context of a matrix organization
  • Ability to manage objectives in a multinational team environment, overcoming communication and cultural barriers to achieve business goals
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to Valmont domestic sites requiring overnight stays

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Experience with general ledger accounting including account reconciliations, journal entries, and a basic understanding of internal controls
  • Experience with IFS and OneStream systems
  • Strong process improvement background and credentials including Six Sigma
  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Domestic travel requirements up to 10% for this position that require overnight stays. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
