Role Summary
The HFC Access Design Supervisor is responsible for a team of HFC and Fiber Designers both locally and virtually. The supervisor will oversee the daily coax and fiber projects, ensure accurate information is provided, processes are in alignment with corporate standardization guidelines and that our network facilities are being utilized efficiently. The leadership expectation of the HFC Access Design supervisor is collaboration with boundary partners, seeking the most efficient solution to all projects, providing support to the design team for complex projects and ensuring design is in compliance with written playbooks distributed by corporate. Frequent travel is required to support remote design staff, ensure expectations are being met with boundary partners.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Ensures design architectures are being followed as required by corporate playbooks.
  • Provides leadership to design team to support daily activity and convey messages regarding workload, productivity and performance.
  • Facilitates standardization efforts and change within the team and with boundary partners ensuring compliance and positive outcomes.
  • Performs individual performance reviews with designers to provide feedback on performance using Design Metrics.
  • Manages drafting and design in GNIS and LODE Data or other ancillary software applications while managing specifications, project tracking, and file storage.
  • Manages design process for all aspects of network design including fiber placement, copper design and system powering.
  • Communicates with employees, other department, and management, holds meetings, writes reports, documents correspondence.
  • Leads team and performs analyses using enterprise supported tools.
  • Assists in managing departmental operating and expense budgets, reduces costs, controls overtime and expenses.
  • Coaches and develops employees, establishes and communicates departmental and individual goals, sets expectations and objectives, evaluates performance, provides feedback.
  • Ensures workforce planning by hiring and training employees or through contract labor.
  • Approves planning and design invoices for contracted projects.
  • Oversees and plans for network capacity and optimization of fiber using enterprise supported technology.
  • May communicate with corporate engineering relative to standardization, software applications and/or new design architecture.
  • May approve final design criteria and quality control
  • May forecast and approve department budgets.
  • Frequent travel within supported region required to meet with Design staff to provide leadership and support and ensure expectations are met.
Qualifications: Minimum
  • 3 or more years of experience required in related field (i.e. Network, Construction,Engineering, Design, CAD Drafting, etc.)
  • Requires strong knowledge of HFC plant (Coax, fiber, actives, passives, video nodes, lasers, splices, receives, power supplies, frequencies, WDM, DWDM); software packages such as Microsoft Office, MapInfo, Lode Data, AutoCad and GNIS.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, process improvement, leadership, verbal, written and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization
Preferred
  • AS/AA or BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly desired (i.e. Engineering, Design, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • 2 or more years of experience in a management role preferred
  • Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
