21-22 UCA- ACCF Forest Educator and Volunteer Coordinator

Alder Creek Community Forest (ACCF) is a non-profit organization that serves the residents of Douglas County Oregon and beyond by providing educational opportunities for school groups K-12 and also the general public. Our mission is to provide lifelong learning and dialogue to address challenges in sustaining forests, watersheds, and communities. In order to fulfill our mission, we host school groups, teachers and members of the general public at our 78-acre forest where participants are taught about their place on this earth through a variety of lessons, classes and activities.United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages members in meaningful service to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCA projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity, Healthy Futures, and Environmental Stewardship. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 6 months, totaling 900 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). Member Duties : Develop and maintain a volunteer program aimed at site maintenance and program implementation o Provide direct instruction to students, teachers and adults o Teacher trainings to provide teachers with skills, knowledge and resources to implement geography and science education topics as part of the K-12 and lifelong learning for participants. Assist with community outreach by visiting schools, posting on social media, and advertising in the community Create advertisements, flyers and posters to recruit volunteers, teachers and community members to participate in our programs Establish and maintain relationships with community partners through collaboration Prepare the site for visitors including setting up chairs and tables, starting the fire, and preparing whatever materials are needed for the upcoming lessons. Perform site-related maintenance and improvements
