Our Patient Financial Coordinator provides assistance to patients, clinicians, and staff concerning insurance and account inquiries. Ensures patients are advised of financial responsibility and facilitates patient payments via collection of deposits, setting up payment plans, and processing financial assistance when applicable. Provides quality customer service by handling incoming patient calls. Offers financial assistance to patients according to WHA policy, and is the liaison between patients and their insurance companies, coordinating payments and answering questions from both parties. Educates patients about payment and financial assistance options.
This is a 40 hr/week position, Monday - Friday.
DUTIES
* Examines appointment reports for potential insurance problems or patients with delinquent accounts. Adds Alert Notes to accounts as necessary.
* Determines when authorization is necessary for gynecological problem visits for Medicaid patients, and requests authorization as needed
* Obtains authorization for surgeries, procedures, CTs, MRIs, and Genetic Testing as ordered by the clinicians.
* Meets personally or via phone with patients to review their OB benefits and arrange payment plans.
* Posts charges for OB deposits.
* Answers live patient phone calls as well as messages to personal and/or joint Patient Financial Coordinator voicemail. Documents conversations as appropriate.
* Answers questions from patients, staff and clinicians concerning insurance benefits.
* Verifies eligibility and benefit coverage utilizing insurance websites when applicable, and as needed or requested.
* Alerts reception team to ensure patients complete appropriate forms as needed. Acts as a resource for follow-up on required forms.
* Acts as a liaison between the Administrative office, clinicians and other clinical staff in communicating information regarding patients, insurances and billing.
* Collects and records patient deposits and provides receipts.
* Meets with self-pay patients to make payment arrangements.
* Determines patient eligibility for financial assistance utilizing WHA protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS
* High school diploma or GED required.
* Medical office experience required, preferably in an OB/GYN medical group practice.
* At least one year of experience in medical billing preferred.
* Knowledge of medical terminology and coding, including ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS required.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others required.
* Demonstrated problem-solving skills in order to resolve complex billing issues required.
* Knowledge of local and major national medical insurance practices preferred.
* Prior experience with or the ability to learn medical practice management scheduling and billing software required.
* Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook), the internet and navigating insurance websites.
* Knowledge of proper business writing standards for letters and memos including the ability to write correspondence with proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, etc.
* Proven effective verbal, listening and written communications skills.
