Responsibilities

Performs initial testing, reagent preparation and validation, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and equipment, confirmation testing, and other high complexity testing under supervision of Toxicology Technical Specialists, Toxicology Charges, or Supervisor. Uses knowledge of department procedures, the appropriate Laboratory Information System (LIS), and laboratory instrumentation computer systems. Assists with order entry, specimen preparation, and record keeping as assigned. Expected to demonstrate optimal interpersonal skills through effective communication and cooperation with coworkers. Employees hired into this classification have the qualifications and are eligible to receive training to progress towards the Toxicology Lab Scientist position.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university with coursework that meets CMS / CLIA requirements to perform high complexity testing.

Experience: Basic specimen collection, handling, processing and storage experience preferred. Experience in a laboratory, physician's office or drug screen collection is preferred.

Skills: Ability to successfully complete an in-house technical training program. Ability to understand and follow OSHA and other regulations. Good communication skills, excellent team player, good organizational skills, and attention to detail. Good knowledge of computer technology. Ability to understand and follow established good laboratory practices.
