Wage: Based on experience, $15-18/hour


FUNCTION: Promotes the principles of a well-rounded life for all the residents of the community in which he/she works. Support the total Recreation program. Includes assisting with preparation of activities and clean up after activity is completed. May have responsibilities for leading specific activities within the community.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

The following specifications may differ depending upon the number of employees among whom the performance of a particular job function can be distributed and the size and type of community.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Lead large and small recreation groups as directed by the Activities Director.
  2. Under direction of the Activities Director, coordinates entertainers, lecturers and any outside event provider to ensure event is well advertised and carried out.
  3. Obtains recreation supplies, as requested.
  4. Provides clerical support, as requested.
  5. Documents resident participation in activities, as requested.
  6. Generates catering orders, as requested.
  7. Set up space and equipment for programs and clean up after activities, as needed and assigned.

Cognitive Enrichment programming:

a. Establish resident interests and preferences for activities, review with resident what his/her life has been like and what activities would be of interest to him/her at this time.

b. Call and remind resident of scheduled activities as necessary. (Community Health staff will do all physical escorts as needed if resident is living in a licensed apartment.)

c. Plan and provide on-going classes during the day, or 1:1 activities for 2 or more persons, based on the resident's interest and cognitive levels.

d. Document the resident's level of participation and interest, as well as response to programming.

e. Communicate with families as directed regarding resident's progress.

Physical Fitness Programming:

a. Lead a variety of fitness programs, as established and scheduled.

b. Evaluate resident status, as directed.

c. Maintain exercise equipment used for physical activities.

Social Programming:

a. Accompany groups of residents to social events outside of the community.

b. Ensure that guest speakers and other guest performers are situated to be effective and given great hospitality.

c. Touch bases with individual resident-sponsored groups to ensure that they have equipment to meet their needs.

d. Take an active lead in large group events.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  2. Is aware of and can support community infection control policies
  3. Participate in community holiday decorating.
  4. Act as a mandatory reporter and provide reporting, as needed.

  12. Able to schedule tasks effectively to meet strict deadlines and within allotted time.
  13. Able to perform duties in compliance with established Universal Precautions, fire safety, infection control and sanitation procedure.
  14. Able to respond constructively to changes and/or problems encountered in work environment.
  15. Able to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  16. Able to understand and apply training and in-service education. Education and/or Experience:

· Will need First Aid and CPR certification.

· Will need to obtain a Food Handlers certificate

· Ability to work in a team environment, work flexible shifts, communicate effectively in English to receive and distribute information to residents, guests and team members.

· Proven ability to understand and demonstrate responsible behavior.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Special Requirements: Must comply with criminal background check, all facility policies, procedures, and Personnel Policy Manual. Current CPR/First Aide Certification, negative TB test, HIV/AIDS awareness education and blood borne pathogen training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to express self adequately in English in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff members, and visitors.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to solve relatively simple problems related to timing of activities and decisions on what is urgent and what is not.


Risk Management Responsibilities:

1. Adheres strictly to all company policies and procedures.

3. Reports all safety concerns or hazardous issues immediately to supervisor.

4. Uses properly trained lifting practices at all times.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect and seeks feedback.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attends in-service programs set up for the employees. Incorporates new methods, principles, and trends learned from continuing education programs into existing practices.

PHYSICAL Requirement:

Seeing: Must be able to read reports and use computer.

Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, residents.

Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to reach above his/her head and perform repetitive movements on feet over long distances.

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to bend to the floor.

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to transfer up to 50 pounds.

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must have finger dexterity to open containers.
