Position Summary:
The Business Development Director (BDD) will lead the business development effort with the company's largest and most influential business opportunities and achieve desired revenue growth targets within a dynamic and exciting assignment.
The BDD will be responsible to identify, develop and manage a pipeline of incremental business opportunities. The BDD will be a road warrior, will relentlessly prospect for new business and will develop a sense of the biggest immediate opportunities that are represented in both the core markets we serve and in new markets. Using excellent negotiation skills combined with product and market expertise, the BDD will provide high levels of customer confidence and will cultivate important repeat customers for MLS.
The BDD will act as the primary revenue developer and primary revenue manager for the largest account opportunities within a defined assignment. The BDD will develop the structure for focus on growing a listing of target accounts and will provide target customers creative product ideas, innovative application solutions and scalable business solutions; all the while demonstrating business maturity and personal resilience.
Position Objective:
Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Development, the BDD will play a strategic role in the growth of MLS. This is a new and highly visible position which will have significant revenue impact. The BDD will leverage their understanding of the industry and competitive landscape to develop a business development philosophy. The BDD will drive revenue growth for the company by implementing a proven system of disciplined prospecting and new business development. The BDD must be a passionate sales leader, bring a 'builder' mentality and maintain a high degree of competitive urgency to ensure the growth and success of MLS.
Essential Functions:
- Working collaboratively with sales teams, product management and other key stakeholders, align priorities with corporate strategies to acquire new customers and aggressively pursue existing and prospective accounts with new product categories within existing footprint and new territories.
- Maintain a leadership role in the development of a high-performance team environment with functional leads from sales, operations, supply chain, finance and marketing to support any and all business development efforts.
- Conduct research and develop plans to identify new markets and customer needs in existing footprint and new territories.
- Provide timely analysis and insights to MLS' senior leadership team from monitoring market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales. Provide progress and status updates to leadership team and develop courses of action, as necessary.
- Partner closely with local and national industry stakeholders (Business, regulatory and associative) and key suppliers to ensure strong partnership and support for business development efforts in alignment with MLS' strategy.
- Coach and mentor other business development professionals to achieve goals and objectives.
- Consistently attract good talent to the organization through effective industry networking, recruiting and outreach efforts to suitable candidates.
- Follow and maintain execution of company policies and procedures.
Experience and Abilities Required:
- 10+ years of strategic sales leadership and B2B experience.
- Extensive industry/sector knowledge and experience working within the mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical fields preferred.
- Implemented meaningful business development plans with measurable impact.
- Managed high-performance teams to meet challenging goals & objectives.
- Analytical thinking capability, leveraging data-driven arguments to make decisions and drive measurable achievements.
- Customer orientation with ability to understand, communicate and meet customer needs.
- Negotiation skills and expertise; ability to cope with ambiguity, and work through complex problems and manage conflict.

- A willingness to travel, mostly domestic, up to 50% - when safe to travel again.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, mechanical, business, or related discipline required. MBA preferred.
