Reporting to Research Specialist the research assistant performs data and sample collection for
agricultural research at Ashtabula Agricultural Research Station in the College of Food, Agricultural,
and Environmental Sciences, a wine-grape research facility. Performs other tasks to complete farm
operations; performs quality analysis on fruit samples in lab setting; travels to local grower vineyards
within Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga counties to collect data and samples; operates canopy and soil
sensors; operates spectrophotometer in lab setting; assists with research plot layout, planting and
other tasks to establish field experiments; harvests crops; sorts, counts and weighs crop samples and
takes other measurements; takes soil and plant samples; assists with application of herbicides and
spray treatments to experiments; performs vineyard maintenance operations such as soil preparation,
pruning, crop and shoot adjustment; applies training systems, installs and repairs grape trellis;
operates tractors and farm machinery; weeds plots; sets up irrigation equipment; maintains grounds,
facilities and equipment; procures supplies; summarizes data and writes reports; participates in field
days and tours; instructs temporary and student employees; occasionally works adjusted schedule
according to weather and crop conditions. Position located in Kingsville, Ohio.
