Job Description:
The Staff Chemist will assist with research on CO2 capture technologies by amine scrubbing by providing analytical chemistry support in Dr. Gary Rochelle's laboratory and Chemistry Department.

General Notes

This is a temporary training position that may be renewed annually, for a maximum of five years, based on performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes/sets-up ion chromatography methods for routine testing
  • Establishes HPLC methods for routine amine degradation analysis
  • Develops new methods entailing HPLC, IC, MS, and other chromatography technologies for identification of amine degradation products
  • Assists doctoral students with routine amine physical property measurements including density, viscosity, and aerosol droplet size
  • Utilizes mass spectrometry methods for performing non-routine degraded amine analysis
  • Performs methods support to Rochelle research group graduate students
  • Supports of extensive CO2 capture pilot campaign(s)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Analytical Chemistry obtained within the past year. Strong background in wet chemistry techniques. Strong oral communication skills and ability to work independently. Ability to define and solve problems with analytical equipment is essential. Ability to interpret results and analyses to ensure the validity of conclusions.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in setting up ion chromatography and HPLC methods and performing routine troubleshooting of those systems to ensure continuous operation. Familiarity with analytical chemistry equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work.

Salary Range

$45,000 + depending on qualifications
