Position Summary Assists with legal research providing legal counsel and guidance in ordinary and special business activities and operations, insurance claims and litigation, and/or any other areas of the Law Division as directed or requested, to ensure maximum protection of ERIE's legal rights and maintenance of operations and activities within the limits prescribed by law. Performs legal research, prepares written memoranda, and provides general legal support at the request or direction of other Counsel within the Law Division to assist in ensuring maximum protection of ERIE's legal rights and maintenance of operations and activities within the limits prescribed by law. May interface with outside counsel in various legal matters including, but not limited to, discovery and litigation matters, and insurance regulatory matters, upon request or direction. * The successful candidate will work across the Law Division's areas of responsibility, providing legal support to a variety of critical Company operations. The successful candidate will be expected to provide deeper support in the areas of data use, privacy, cybersecurity and technology. Among others, responsibilities will include reviewing and negotiating technology and data contracts, providing legal support for incident response, and researching/advising the Company on legal obligations in the rapidly evolving world of data privacy and cybersecurity. * During the current COVID19 event, the selected candidate will work from their home. The candidate will work from the Home Office, Erie PA once COVID19 restrictions are lifted.Consideration will be given for a hybrid schedule. Duties and Responsibilities Assists in providing legal advice regarding legal issues involving the company's business activities, including extensive and detailed research and preparation of written memoranda regarding issues involved. Provides legal research, advice and guidance on insurance claims and any other insurance issues or regulatory matters as required or directed. Handles legal assignments as directed or requested. Assists in discovery and litigation as directed or requested. May provide counsel and advice to various areas of the business involving legal matters or related considerations when requested or directed. May interface with outside counsel on various legal matters. Reviews proposed and existing legislation affecting ERIE's member companies and assists in establishing the company's position. Prepares and/or assists in preparing a regulatory and legislative update to ERIE management. Assists in implementing various regulations and legislation with respect to ERIE operations. Participates in trade associations and regulatory and legislative hearings and meetings when requested as directed or requested. Prepares and/or reviews proposed contracts, leases and other formal agreements in order to safeguard the company's interests. Reviews drafts of ERIE's insurance policies, forms and endorsements as required or directed. The first eight duties listed are the functions identified as essential to the job.
