Lab Assistant (Test Technician)
Pay Range: $18-22/hr
Job Details:
SUMMARY: Set up and perform a wide variety of laboratory tests on assigned projects. Fabricate and test prototype oil, propane, and natural gas residential burners and boilers. Fabricate test apparatus's. Conduct tests and record data in accordance with procedures outlined by project engineers and/or regulatory agencies.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Set up and operate a variety of boilers: gas and oil; atmospheric, induced draft, direct vent; on/off and modulating.
• Set up and perform tests according to standard test procedures of ANSI (American National Standards Institute, Inc.), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc.) or similar advisory or regulatory agency.
• Use lab equipment to record measurements including but not limited to temperature, pressure, flow rate, voltage, current draw, and flue gas composition.
• Maintain detailed electronic test records including test description, equipment list, and all required data.
• Use computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel. Learn and use Lab View.
• Perform basic pipe fitting, assembly, electrical wiring and adjustment of units to obtain proper operation.
• Wire electric controls for burners and boilers to insure proper operation and safety.
• Perform troubleshooting and debugging of test set-ups and test equipment.
• Fabricate simple and complex parts and models to support design and testing.
• Use basic hand tools.
• Assist in other laboratory functions as required, including maintenance and calibration of equipment and general clean-up. Coordinate activities with project engineer and lab supervisor.
• Perform field troubleshooting when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience
o Two year technical degree preferred. Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
