Job Description
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the volunteer program, including recruitment, building partnerships, training of individual and group volunteers, and matching volunteers with sites.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Adult Education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Maintain and grow volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed.
* Work closely with adult education providers, the Philadelphia Free Library, and others to periodically assess needs for volunteer expertise and level of volunteer staffing
* Develop and maintain process to
* review applications, check references and interview potential individual volunteers
* assess interests/skills of volunteers and match with appropriate activities
* Manage comprehensive orientation process for new volunteers that includes:
* information about volunteering with adult education providers (manual, website)
* criteria for involvement (based on existing needs)
* update manual and website as necessary
* Work closely with all program and department managers to ensure that
* volunteer positions are sufficiently filled to meet identified needs and
* volunteers enjoy a positive experience
* Maintain volunteer database that also captures volunteer stories and quotes
* Provide accurate and timely volunteer data for funder and volunteer-requested reports
* Engage with existing volunteers daily and provide feedback and additional guidance as needed
* Maintain ongoing communications with volunteers through mail chimp email news blasts, newsletters, and print materials
* Serve as liaison between OCF Adult Education, adult education providers, and the Philadelphia Free Library and individual volunteers
* Plan and execute volunteer appreciation and training activities
* Develop and administer annual volunteer satisfaction survey; compile and report results to OCF Adult Education
* Work occasional Saturday or holiday at request
* Serve as an ambassador for OCF Adult Education in relations with volunteers and organizations
* Schedule and coordinate special visitor groups from community organizations and corporations
* Participate in special event planning; participate in events as needed
* Coordinate with SERVE on aligned activities such as volunteer trainings
* Identify high profile volunteers and make connections with the development team
* Expand the program through relationships, training, and innovative tactics
* Other relevant duties as assigned
