JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State is seeking a Functional Business Systems Analyst to provide ongoing support for Penn State's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student information system, LionPATH, within the LionPATH Development and Maintenance Organization (LDMO). The location of this position is flexible and can operate fully remote within the United States, fully in-person at our University Park Campus, or in a hybrid model of both in-person and remote. Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone.

This position is responsible for analyzing/diagnosing system issues, analyzing business processes, and designing functional solutions for system enhancements. Additionally, the individual in this role will be responsible for testing and documenting system functionality. The focus of this position is primarily to support the Financial Aid and Student Financials, and related functionality of LionPATH, and will report to the functional team lead. This position may include additional opportunities for projects in other functional areas of the system.

Additional duties and expectations include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as subject matter expert for a complex student information system
  • Ensure successful operation of the student information system
  • Modify and/or configure system to meet business needs and stakeholder requirements
  • Document business requirements and author detailed functional system specifications
  • Develop training materials
  • Work collaboratively with functional offices throughout the University
  • Develop and execute test plans and test scripts, as well as other quality assurance measures
  • Lead testing such as user acceptance, performance, security, usability, etc.
  • Design queries
  • Analyze/diagnose and resolve production issues
  • Resolve tickets in issue tracking system
  • Function as LionPATH Tier 3 support for Student Aid, Student Financials, and related areas of LionPATH
  • Provide written and oral status updates to supervisor, other team members, and/or functional offices
  • Participate in the implementation of system patches, updates, and maintenance
  • Participate in the implementation and configuration of third-party applications that integrate with the Student System
  • May lead or mentor sub-teams


Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience areas include:
  • In-depth knowledge of one of the following areas: PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Financial Aid and/or Student Financials
  • Experience working in student administrative services in higher education
  • Working knowledge of requirements definition techniques
  • Effective Project Management skills or certifications (PMP, CAPM, etc.)
  • Effective customer service and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (e.g. SharePoint, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate technology concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to recognize data anomalies and problems, and identify corrective actions
  • Ability to train and mentor peers, and to train functional office staff
