Novecare develops and produces formulations that alter the properties of liquids. Job Overview and Responsibilities

This position is in the Agricultural Specialties lab, a market lab directly supporting Solvay's business teams and customers. The incumbent will be in charge of contributing to delivering on a variety of projects (customer support; innovation projects). The incumbent is responsible for the design and timely execution of work plans and projects consistent with application constraints that deliver value to the company and end consumers.

Key Responsibilities:

Helps transform the needs expressed by customers into high-level, quality scientific questions. Conceives, designs, plans, and executes experiments to answer these questions. Designs and proposes well-structured technical programs and projects to further the expertise and innovate. Keeps up with recent development in the area of expertise and communicate to the organization. Prepares technical reports / technical notes

Knowing and following key Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site and the labs

Demonstrating a safety commitment / behavior by participating in PSRs, volunteering for safety teams, etc.

Taking action and reporting on any unsafe act / condition / behavior. Everyone on site is empowered to intervene on any unsafe act that they may observe.

Reporting any near miss or odor complaint within the building

Attending laboratory safety training for new hires

Understanding and signing off on their lab safety orientation checklist

  • Touring and reviewing safety equipment in lab. Know the location of:
  • closest first aid kit and emergency alarm,
  • eyewash and safety shower
  • fire extinguishers
  • PPE storage
  • waste containers
  • spill kits
  • Solvent storage, etc.


Attending monthly safety meetings and mandatory training topics

Being able to access MSDS via CISPro

Participating in a minimum of one lab inspection per year

Wearing appropriate PPE while in the laboratory

Obtaining advanced equipment or process specific safety training when necessary according to the specific dangers of present assignment

Using the Process Safety Review (PSR) system for reviewing activities

Education and Experience

  • PhD in Physical Chemistry, first experience in the industry welcomed
  • Solid knowledge in Formulation science in relation to Soft M atter (polymers, surfactants, solvents)
  • Experience in the field of Agricultural specialties and its actives would be an asset

Creativity, efficiency, autonomy, strong organizational skills
Interpersonal skills with ability to work under the guidance of different senior scientists
Ability to work in a team environment and cross functional groups
Strong scientific/technical presentation and written skills
Safe lab practices and record keeping experience are essential
