Receive, accession, process, embed, cut,stain,mount and label surgical specimens for examination by the pathologist

Responsibilities:
1. Technical Duties

1.1 Prepares gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist

2. Other duties

2.1 Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.

3. Quality

3.1 Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens

4. Problem solving

4.1 Follows established quidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems

5. Regulation Compliance

5.1 Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety

6. People

6.1 Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships

7. Customer Service

7.1 Uses Patient/Family center values/Conducts all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families

Qualifications:
EDUCATION

Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last five years. Completion of NAACLS accredited program waived with current HTL(ASCP) certification.OR Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.

EXPERIENCE

Three years of Histology experience preferred

LICENSURE

ASCP certification preferred.
