The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the leadership and management of all functions of the Human Resources department in accordance with hotel & legal standards. This position will direct, implement and maintain a service and management philosophy, which serves as a guide to respective staff.
OPERATIONS
* Develop and implement annual Action Plan to meet the Human Resources Department goals.
* Maintain files on all current laws regarding Human Resources on: Wage and Hour, OSHA, union (where applicable), Workers Comp, Immigrations, Unemployment, COBRA, EEOC, ADA, Alcoholic Beverage Service, etc.
* Maintain files on resource areas, including AHMA, Compensation Carrier, State Employment Agency, Corporate Human Resource Office.
* Develop and maintain current job descriptions for all hotel positions.
* Ensure that the application, screening, interview and hiring process for all candidates is carried out in accordance with hotel policy and procedures and state/federal laws.
* Ensure accurate maintenance and confidentiality of all employee files and hotel information.
* Ensure authorized approvals and paperwork for Leave of Absence/Vacations, Transfers, Sick Days, Bereavement Time, Friends & Family Room Requests, 401(k), etc.
* Network with local peers, establishing positive public relations. Attend association meetings and functions.
* Maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting human resources management. Identify trends that could impact organizational objectives and/or operational resources. Interpret appropriate laws and policies and advise management, employees, and retirees accordingly.
* Ensure service to all associates, applicants, and guests follows established standards, is consistent, efficient and courteous.
* Maintain safe working conditions and practices. Practice emergency procedures in compliance with hotel/company standards; react and assist in hotel emergency situations as needed.
COMMUNICATIONS AND TRAINING
* Constantly monitor Human Resources staff performance in all phases of service and job functions, ensuring that all procedures are carried out to departmental standards; rectify any deficiencies with respective personnel.
* Develop and participate in an orientation program for all new hires.
* Establish guidelines for performance reviews on all employees. Ensure completion and placement in employees files.
* Establish progressive discipline procedures; monitor compliance with such; conduct counseling sessions with employees; ensure documentation and placement of records in employees files.
* Ensure exit interviews are being conducted/offered to with all terminated employees; ensure placement of documentation in employees files.
* Enhance company EEO position by making a good faith effort to recruit, select, develop, and retain protected class employees.
* Establish and maintain quality recognition programs within the hotel.
* Monitor the hiring, evaluation, training and discipline of all hourly employees by department managers to ensure consistency in administering direction; follow up with corrections where needed.
FINANCIAL AND LEGAL
* Prepare annual Human Resources budget. Track actuals to forecast, keep expenses within budget.
* Identify and implement methods for efficiency and reduction of payroll costs.
* Administer pay increases according to length of service, performance evaluation and hotel policy standards.
* Complete and maintain current records on a competitive wage and benefit survey for all hotel positions.
* Investigate and prepare reports on EEOC charges; coordinate hearings with Labor Relations lawyer.
Requirements
* College degree in related field
* Minimum of 5 years human resources leadership experience in the hospitality field
* SPHR or SHRM-SCP preferred
* Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
* Working knowledge of payroll administration systems, ADP, HRP as well as MS office software
* Proven track record developing, planning, implementing and deploying multiple HR solutions
* Proven experience working closely with senior leaders and ability to influence effectively
* Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Strong leadership abilities with clear communication both inter- and intra-departmentally
* Ability to generate staff enthusiasm and create a positive atmosphere
