Application Lab Technician: 12 to 16 Weeks Temporary Position (begin January, 2022)
COATEX, INC, a global leader in waterborne rheology solutions, is offering a 12-16 weeks temporary position to a LAB TECHNICIAN to carry out hands-on research, which utilizes new and existing products to develop solutions for various market applications, including coatings and adhesives. You will be responsible for assembling formulations and carrying out chemical and physical tests to understand formulation-property relationships. You will work closely with senior chemists as part of the research and development team.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments as requested by his/her direct supervisor. This must be completed on schedule but the candidate must manage his/her own time.
- Compile, interpret, and analyze data. Prepare technical reports and present conclusions.
- Follow and execute appropriate laboratory tests to validate product quality.
- Check and maintain lab equipment for conformity, including metrological follow-up and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure lab QHSE procedures are properly followed. Observe and report any problems or failures.
- Participate in safety trainings and programs.
- Ensure that the lab remains in state of cleanliness that complies with its usage.
- Understand plant environmental health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
Context and Environment
- Handling hazardous chemicals with appropriate protective equipment.
- Personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators and chemical resistant clothing, hard hats, safety eyewear, etc.) that may be required at times will increase the level of physical stress experienced by workers.
- Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks, considering safety and environmental concerns
- Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Completed or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields
- Able to read and write technical reports in English
- Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exactness and adherence to rules and procedures.
- Good Judgment, Confidentiality and Intellectual curiosity.
- Maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous goods internationally and domestically
