21-22 Resource Navigator with AmeriCorps Upstate
Fight poverty and find your path on our team of 25 members across 4 counties in Upstate South Carolina. Our region is growing rapidly and is recognized with many accolades but that has not translated to improved conditions for low-income individuals & families. High unemployment and poverty rates contribute to food and housing crises alongside low financial literacy and limited access to reputable banking services. Our team members serve in partner organizations to overcome barriers, improve access, and create vibrant and equitable communities. The focus of our program is moving people who in crisis and vulnerable toward safety, stability, and thriving. To accomplish this, team members provide the following services: • Resource Navigation: Case management, benefit applications, crisis assistance, and connecting clients with community resources • Financial Literacy: Teaching financial literacy to clients individually or in a classroom setting • VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance): Provide tax preparation service in the community at free clinics This is a great opportunity for recent graduates, veterans, retirees, or anyone who is interested in starting a career in the nonprofit field. Member Duties : Members are matched with a service site tailored to their interests. Variety of positions across 4 counties: Greenville, Pickens, Anderson, Laurens. Member responsibilities may include supporting clients in navigating community resources, benefit application assistance, teaching financial literacy, preparing income tax returns, and basic case management. All members will participate in orientation provided by AmeriCorps Upstate. A member's term will include daily service at placement site, team-based semi-monthly professional development and tax preparation trainings on Fridays, and several group community service projects. Member is responsible for submitting time sheets weekly and tracking progress/data. Must be computer literate. Program dates: 8.16.2021 - 7.31.2022, must serve entire term. Service hours vary by placement, but generally traditional hours (M-F 9a-5p). Full-time: 36-40 hours/wk. Some weeknight evenings & Saturday mornings during tax season (Feb-April).
