Job description

Schedule and purchase items to meet production needs, increase cost efficiencies and improve quality while developing close JIT delivery relationships with vendors.


RESPONSIBILITIES - Primary

  • Apply the purchasing site strategy on his/her commodities to purchase at the best cost, quality, and lead time to meet our customer's goals.
  • Schedule/Review requirements using MRP.
  • Develop sound working relationships with vendors. Negotiate, place, and expedite "one time" and "blanket" purchase orders. Visit vendors.
  • Responsible for his/her vendor panel S/Q/C/D performance. Research and validate new suppliers.
  • Work with the Engineering project teams to support product/system development.
  • Evaluate the vendor performance and define corrective actions.
  • Research new/alternative sources; analyze cost efficiencies.
  • Maintain planning information/lead-times on MRP/new stock requests.
  • Identify and rectify cycle count problems.
  • Dispense rejected materials expeditiously
  • Assist members of Corporate Purchasing as needed; suggest workflow improvements in-house and at supplier sites.
  • Keep informed of market trends through trade journals.
  • Process service orders
  • Ship service orders (OB, packing slip, labels)
  • Process credits
  • Process credit card transactions
  • Issue RMA/s

EDUCATION

  • Associates degree in a business field or 2 years of college business courses such as finance or accounting.


EXPERIENCE

  • 3-4 years purchasing experience for a manufacturing company. Minimum 2 years handling purchasing for mechanical applications.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of purchasing procedures and fundamentals. Must be able to analyze purchasing requirements for mechanical applications.


ADDITIONAL SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication skills and team skills.
  • Strong vendor research and negotiation skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of MRP, JIT and SAP.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex technical data including blueprints.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines and to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Should be proficient in Excel, Word.
  • Should have good internet and email knowledge to be used for communicating and research.
  • Some traveling required to audit new and existing vendors, search for new vendors, and to attend trade shows.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 doctrines.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical applications.
  • NAPM membership preferred.
  • APICS membership preferred.
  • Technical background in electronics is preferred.
  • Overall understanding of a manufacturing company's operations.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of purchasing procedures and fundamentals.
  • Must be able to analyze purchasing requirements for mechanical applications.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk 2-4 hours at a time throughout 8-hour workday
  • Required ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone
  • Verbal and Listening Skills required
  • Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
