Job description
Position Summary:
Due to continued growth Permian Energy services is looking to add an Electrical Testing Technician (ETT) to our team. Electrical Testing Technicians are expected to perform services, testing, and maintenance on various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Help to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform commissioning, and collect data of low, medium and/ or high voltage (up to 800kV) electrical systems.
- Low, Medium and/ or High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
- Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repairs of transformers and all related equipment - 45 KVA to 200 MVA, dry type and/or oil filled.
- Help to perform maintenance, testing, and repair on circuit breakers - low voltage 480 volt (molded case and air-magnetic) medium voltage up to 34.5kV (air-magnetic, vacuum, and SF6).
- Experience filling and working with SF6 filled equipment and gas insulated switchgear, desired but not required.
- Test and inspect low, medium, and high voltage cable installations.
- Perform medium and high voltage cable termination and cable splicing.
- Experience operating high voltage test equipment including but not limited to Doble Power Factor test sets, partial discharge test equipment, Tan Delta VLF equipment, and other various electrical apparatus testing equipment.
- Perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair services on controls and transfer schemes.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
- Basic understanding of substation protection and relay testing preferred but not required.
- Rotating apparatus testing of induction and synchronous equipment preferred but not required.
- All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Desired Skills & Expertise:
- Knowledge of various industry standards such as: NETA, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, OSHA and NFPA.
- NETA II or III/NICET I, II, or III Certification Preferred.
- Testing & Maintenance Experience with most of the following or similar equipment: MCC's, Circuit Breakers, transformers, protective relays (protection & control), infrared scanning, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
- Proficient in reading and accurately interpreting power system wiring diagrams including DC elementary drawings, single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, etc.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all company and customer electrical safety procedures.
- Solid theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
- Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
- Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
- Work effectively with customers, peers, and management to resolve customer issues.
- Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office as well as efficient use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research.
Preferred Education:
Graduate of Electrical Technical School or Military; or an associate degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power, or similar experience and training from the military (Army, Air Force, NAVY); NETA II or III Certification; NICET I, II, or III Certification.

- Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Must not require sponsorship currently or in the future to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
Location: Abilene, TX
Travel: 40%-50%
Industries: Low Voltage/ Medium Voltage/ High Voltage Electrical equipment, electrical engineering, and electrical field services.
Pay Range: Based on level of experience.
