The Amarillo College Suzuki Program is accepting applications, cover letters, and resumes for part-time instructors to teach private lessons, group lessons and other related content.
The Amarillo College Suzuki Program, founded in 1977, and is a well-established program in the panhandle of Texas. We currently have close to 150 students, ages 3-18, registered in violin, viola, cello, flute, guitar, piano and harp. Amarillo is a town rich in arts and culture, with possibilities to perform with a professional symphony, opera, several theater outlets and numerous church and other performance venues. With a registered SAA violin teacher trainer in our program and music graduate programs at nearby West Texas A&M University, advanced training and educational opportunities are available in our area. Additional teaching opportunities may exist within the Amarillo College Music Department, based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
* Required: Bachelors Degree, Completion of Suzuki Every Child Can! course, Registered Suzuki training through a minimum of Book 1, with commitment to continue training.
EXPERIENCE:
* Preferred: Registered SAA Suzuki training levels 1-4 or beyond.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Trained in the Suzuki Method, with instrument proficiency.
* Must be comfortable teaching beginners and adapting to common terminology and traditions of the existing program.
* Must be able to pass background check.
* Good oral and written command of the English language and grammar is required.
* Ability to work under stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with students in a professional manner.
* Students met through the AC Suzuki Program will not be allowed to study privately with the hire for 6 months after departure from the AC Suzuki Program. Successful candidate will not teach privately outside of the AC Suzuki Program within a 40-mile radius of Amarillo without written approval of the Suzuki Coordinator.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide instruction in their trained instrument, while committing to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods and effective use of the Suzuki teaching method.
* Teach private lessons, up to 2 group classes per week, assist in leading play ins, workshop sessions and community performances as needed.
* Attend solo recitals, workshops, concerts, fundraising and community outreach events, and Suzuki faculty meetings.
* Commitment to the Suzuki philosophy and AC Suzuki program teaching environment.
* Demonstrate competence in his/her teaching field and related technologies.
* Attend briefings on procedures, advising, registration, and general policy.
* Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
* Educate themselves regarding College policies.
* Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
* Participate in department, division and college meetings as assigned or required.
* Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.
* Required to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times, especially when dealing with resistance or hostility, and to provide an exemplary level of customer service to all internal, external customers, vendors, community leaders, etc.
* Perform additional related duties as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: Teaching will primarily occur in the Music Building on the Washington Street campus of Amarillo College.
Salary: Hourly rate of $38 (up to 19 hours per week)
This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill adjunct/part time assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the pool of applications on file to fill assignments as needs arise. Applicants will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.
