Description

Position Title: Assistant Professor of Biology, Full-Time, Tenure-Track

The Department of Natural Sciences at Huston-Tillotson University is seeking applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty positions with a 9-month academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position has an anticipated start date of August 9, 2021. The Department seeks candidates with previous experience and demonstrated excellence as undergraduate instructors in the areas of human anatomy and physiology, general biology, conservation biology, developmental biology, ecology, field biology, and related courses. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a full undergraduate course load (12 hours) of lecture and laboratory courses for majors and non-majors during the Fall and Spring semesters, advise and mentor undergraduate students; and participate in departmental and college activities, including student recruitment and retention programs and support of undergraduate research. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion whose interests and training lend themselves to a broad and interdisciplinary teaching and research capacity. Summer teaching is available, as are opportunities to engage in existing special programs of the Department.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D in the Biological Sciences. (See above for preferred disciplines.)
• Demonstrated effectiveness as an autonomous undergraduate Biology course instructor at the Lecturer or Adjunct Instructor level or above.
• Demonstrated excellence in student mentorship and advising.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse learners.
• Exceptional teamwork skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Evidence of scholarly contributions to the discipline via research, publication, and/or classroom innovations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training and/or certification in distance learning, remote, and or hybrid instruction.
• Training and/or certification in inclusive teaching practices.
• Training and/or certification in Learning Management Software systems.
• Experience with curriculum revision, evaluation, and/or program assessment.
• Experience with undergraduate researchers and/or community science initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to secure external funding for research programs.
