Job description

Overall Purpose of Role:

To provide support and assistance to the overall underwriting function through customer care, processing of various underwriting transactions, data research and analysis. Assisting to develop relationships with assigned agencies that will result in developing and improving retention, growth and profitability. This process will include collaboration with the underwriter and agency relationships to develop annual production goals and retention.

Key Competencies:

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

* Analyze and negotiate complex endorsement requests and handle within established service standards/authority.
* Assist with triage of submissions to determine risk selection acceptability including processing declinations, quoting, or identify essential information required for quoting purposes.
* Conduct underwriting file analysis, including identifying forms and endorsements used in policy construction.
* Assist underwriters and assistant underwriters in carrying out their essential duties and responsibilities to enhance the overall performance of the division through utilization of systems and guidelines as provided.
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships with underwriters, customers, and business partners to provide high quality service to clients.
* Issue binders.
* Interact with agents to assist with follow up for underlying information, subjectivities as well as addressing account inquiries.
* Manage NCCI and State Bureau access and compliance for internal and external customers.
* Coordinate and distribute SAIC, SLIC and SNIC experience rating modifiers to our internal Underwriters and our Program Partners.
* Coordinate the distribution of Deductible Invoices for Retail and Program business.
* Assist the Audit Team in the distribution of Audit Letters.
* Assist the Marketing Department on monthly calls to designated agents.
* Assist in pulling loss runs for our Retail and Program business.
* Coordinate WC POLS activities for SLIC, SAIC and SNIC (Assist MIS on the resolution of error reports).

How your role contributes to the success of the business

The Underwriting Assistant has the essential role of providing support and assistance to the overall underwriting functions through customer care, processing of various underwriting transactions, data research and analysis. Working as a team to ensure the production and customer care goals are met.

Specific functions of your role

* Enter submission information into the system
* Assist in the preliminary underwriting screening process for new and renewal business
* Gather pertinent information so the underwriting can select and price risks
* Assist the underwriter in the timely issuance of insurance policies and endorsements
* Solicit, and follow-up for required information from agents
* Analyze, authorize, and process endorsements and new and renewal business within the scope of given authority
* Provide direct customer service internally or externally by responding to inquiries regarding coverages, company policies and account status
* Provide administrative support for the department including word processing, creating spreadsheets and presentation material and reports
* Maintain thorough knowledge of the Workers Compensation coverage
* Maintain a strong verbal and written communication skill to explain, and present information
* Coordinate all NCCI activities related to experience modifiers.
* Pull loss information from internal system and coordinate the request through our TPA Partners.

Requirements

Experience

* Subject matter expert of workers compensation underwriting processes; including rating, data entry, endorsements, and the general knowledge of the insurance policy.
* Oral and written communication skills to handle assigned processes, as well as to develop and maintain relationships.
* Full and complete knowledge of underwriting system and or strong computer skills.
* Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy is critical to analysis of existing and new policies.

Professional Qualifications

* At least 3 years prior related insurance experience.
* Preference: High school diploma or equivalent; strong computer skills.
* Must be dedicated, team-oriented and willing to take on extra tasks.
* Excellent writing and communication skills and familiarity with the underwriting terminology.
* Ability to interact with all levels of associates.
* Strong organization and time management skills.
* Proficient in the use of computer systems.
