General Description
The Development Officer plays an important role as a member of the Development Team by helping formulate plans for the department and contriubting to the team's fundraising goals. This role has a unique privilege to share the great work of our mission and the stories of our clients with the community and allow the opportunity for the community to engage in our work. In this role, the Development Officer will be responsible for managing, creating and implementing two of our signature events, Aim for Advocacy and a new event in April 2022.
Success for the team is meeting revenue goals as we continue to meet the demand for services from our clients. As a team we are responsible for driving deeper, individual relationships working collaboratively to make sure donors are engaged in ways that suit their interests through teammate events and initiatives.
Personal success is derived from meeting clearly stated revenue goals. The goals are high, the pace is fast and there should be a deep sense of responsibility in doing the job well. A top performer is on fire for our mission, exceeds revenue and action goals, establishes significant relationships with new community members, works collaboratively with the team to ensure success, operates by DCAC core values, continues to seek out knowledge about DCAC to improve the story for the community.
This individual will also oversee departmental donor data on all gift giving and work closely with the finance department to ensure gift entry is correct and reconciling finances post event to determine the final net revenue.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Event-Based Fundraising
Aim for Advocacy is the quickest growing DCAC event and one that has steadily grown year over year. The event engages sporting and outdoor enthusiasts in a friendly and challenging 8-station clay-shooting tournament. This successful event exceeds revenue goal ($325,000) every year. Additionally, a new event will be launched next spring. Both events raise over $500,000 net for DCAC.
The Development Officer will be responsible for the following:
- Oversee strategy, direction and revenue generation for Aim and a new spring fundraising event.
- Recruit and steward volunteer event chairs and committee leadership for Aim and new event.
- Leverage relationships with community partners to join committees and aid in not only fundraising to meet goals but also augment event expenses.
- Manage and coordinate all day-to-day fundraising operations and logistics for the event and supporting the event goals as well as administrative duties related to the underwriting process, committee management, gift acknowledgment and revenue updates.
- Creating strategy for identifying a donor pipeline to cultivate new prospective event donors.
- Utilize relationship building strategies to retain donors post-event through immediate and appropriate follow-up and communication.
- Grow the revenue goal for both events year over year. Aim has potential to meet and exceed goal through committee management.
Donor Management
The Development Officer will also oversee maintainence of a portfolio of donors and uncover additional revenue streams. Goals are measured in revenue dollar, actions (face to face visits, stewardship calls, tours), donor retention and solicitation numbers.
- Maintain and engage a portfolio of donors, actively cultivating and closing individual gifts.
- Maintain and grow existing giving strategies like Save Jane Society, DCAC's auxiliary and Heroes for Healing, DCAC's monthly giving opportunity.
- Communicate with donors on a regular basis to gain a greater understanding of philanthropic interests of individuals with the goal of deepening donor engagement with DCAC.
- Maintain and steward a portfolio of annual donors and contribute to moves management of donors through DCAC donor pipeline.
- Support in-kind efforts by soliciting donors related to Holiday of Hope and Family Assistance needs throughout the year.
- Capture donor engagement via Raiser's Edge entry of actions.
- Secure funding from individuals to meet/exceed yearly overall revenue goal.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited university or equivalent preferred.
- 2-4 years of development or non-profit experience preferred; event fundraising/management experience strongly preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of donor database entry and management, specifically Blackbaud Raiser's Edge, strongly preferred.
- Expert level proficiency with MS Word; intermediate level proficiency with MS Windows, Excel and Access.
- Exceptional written, oral, and public communication skills with the capacity to engage multiple and diverse constituents.
