Job description
Position Overview:
Motiva Terminals & Pipelines business is expanding and is in need of additional support in the financial analytics space. The successful candidate will assist the finance manager and senior financial analyst in coordinating and co-leading the development of the annual operating plan, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and deliver efficiency and value opportunities. This position will act as the focal point for capital and expense determination, in addition to support of solutions to accounting issues, process design and documentation and ensure the control framework is followed for assigned area of operation. Exposure to senior management will occur through the presentation of monthly business reviews and other ad hoc assignments. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn all facets of the Terminals & Pipelines business.
Key responsibilities of this role focus on being the finance interface to the business, including:
- Decision support, challenge, appraisal, and forward-looking analysis
- Bottom-up development of the annual business plan for over 40+ cost centers
- An effective, risk-based governance & control framework to the business
Responsibilities:
- Monthly accounting closing process for Terminals & Pipelines
- Assist in developing monthly estimates and flash with meaningful variance explanations
- Lead monthly financial stewardship reviews with T&P stakeholders and provide variance analysis on monthly results
- Support and co-lead bottoms up development of annual business plan for Terminals & Pipelines
- Assist with monthly scorecard tracking, development of metrics
- Assist with reviewing balance sheet variance analysis
- Identify key areas for expense reduction opportunities
- Identify initiatives that are focused and aligned on improving operational and reporting efficiencies and effectiveness
- Focal point for Capital vs Expense determination and ensure compliance to Capital policy
- Participate on finance capital team to promote capital process standardization to identify and embed best practices
- Monitor and review Terminals & Pipelines capital expenditures and compliance with budget
- Perform asset verifications
- Coordinate biannual Solomon Benchmarking data submission and analysis
- Leverage MI reports and tools to help identify and drive implementation of performance improvement opportunities
- Adopt best practices with special attention to learning from others
- Develop working relationships with key stakeholders and understand the operations of the business
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and Accounting Policies
- Assist management with Ad hoc reporting needs and projects
- Provide support to the Finance Manager and senior finance analyst; serve as backup for the team as needed
Experience and Qualifications Required:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of relevant business or finance experience
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn, explore, and challenge.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Willingness to travel; some travel associated with plan review sessions and/or terminal visits is required.
- Ability to make process improvement recommendations and co-lead implementing process improvements.
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to think strategically and the foresight to see the bigger picture and end result; understand end user needs and translate into successful project delivery
- Ability to relay financial information in a way that people with little or no financial background can understand. Connecting the "books to the business" is crucial.
- Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills at various levels of the organization
- Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
- Competent user of standard IT applications including SAP, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with account analysis, which includes fully understanding balances and the process around the accounts; ability to identify linkages and cause and effect
- Experience with RightAngle
- Strong understanding of SAP
- Inquisitive and eager to learn
