2500 SIGN ON *Job Summary* This position is a sworn member of BSWH Public Safety and is responsible for a variety of law enforcement, security, loss prevention, customer service-related duties, and a visual presence to deter hospital threats. Their duties include maintaining law and order on hospital grounds; patrolling and protecting hospital buildings and grounds; checking for unauthorized movement of patients, breaches of security, and unsafe conditions; conducting administrative and criminal investigations; making arrests; testifying in court; and enforcing vehicle traffic and parking regulations and issuing citations when necessary. Incumbents also monitor patient and visitor activities on hospital grounds; assist nursing personnel in controlling severely combative patients; and carry out standard search procedures in cases of unauthorized patient absences. *Essential Functions* The primary purpose of the *DETECTIVE* position is to provide investigative expertise and oversight on a wide variety of criminal investigations. The role is responsible for conducting investigations while enforcing criminal laws and institutional regulations that promote the protection, safety and welfare of students, employees, patients, visitors, and all property within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of BSWH. Prepares case files, reports, and evidence for submitted and the office of District Attorney or City Attorney. Interviews witness, victims, and complainant; take depositions and/or statements Writes arrest and searches warrants. Conducts searches and collects physical evidence Performs complete preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes and crime scenes either independently or as a member of a team. *General Functions* Patrols assigned areas in vehicle, on bicycle, and on foot to detect and deter crime. Apprehending subjects committing crimes. Respond to emergency calls, safety escorts, and calls for assistance. Intervenes as necessary to confront and restrain hostile and abusive persons to reduce the risk of injury to the public and themselves. Take appropriate legal action and renders emergency care. Investigates and reports on crimes, suspicious activity, disturbances, and accidents. Responds to crimes in progress. Produces complete, accurate and concise reports, to includes but is not limited to criminal offenses, false fire alarms, safety hazards and general information, consistent with internal processes and as prescribed by law. Serves in specialized units such as investigations, fire safety, crime prevention, and training as assigned and emergency management. Completes initial investigations and follow-up investigations as assigned. Participates in crime prevention strategies and special programs as assigned. Enforces state laws, policies, procedures, and forwards the mission of the organization. Transports legal documents, valuables, medical instruments, supplies other secure articles as assigned to ensure the safe and timely transfer of valued articles. Stays current with applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact or govern the department and organization. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the security field by attending training, reading security literature and professional journals. *Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities* *REQUIRED: *Six years' experience as a commissioned peace officer, with three years as an investigator or detective. Must have excellent interpersonal and public relations skills. Must be able to react well in stressful situations. Must be willing to work any shift for several locations throughout the DFW area. Must possess written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels, both inside and outside of BSWH Public Safety. Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex problems. Proficient using PC and various software applications. *Minimum Requirements* * Licenses - Certificates - Registrations* Current/Active Texas Intermediate (or above) Peace Officer license. A valid Texas DL with a good driving record *OR* for out of state residents: A good driving record, copy of your valid state-issued driver's license *AND *must obtain TXDL within the State of TX new resident guidelines below. Has never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years; No more than three (3) moving violation convictions within last 36 months. *Education/Experience* *Prefe*r - High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with sixty (60) completed college semester credit hours (or more) will meet the education requirements. With two (2) years law enforcement experience. *OR *- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with a minimum of thirty-six (36) months active service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America with an Honorable Discharge will meet the education requirements. With four (4) years law enforcement experience. *OR* - High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with thirty (30) completed college semester credit hours will meet the education requirements. With four (4) years law enforcement experience. *OR* - High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with six (6) years law enforcement experience where primary responsibilities included performing Texas Peace Officer duties with a Police Agency. *Physical Requirements* Ability to walk extensively, bend, carry and lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs.) Examples: Nurses, LVNS, and physical therapist. Must be able to: continuously work outdoors in all kinds of weather; drive or sit in a patrol car for prolonged periods of time while remaining alert; understand verbal communication over the radio with background noise; and read and write under low light conditions. Pass physical (medical) examination which includes a drug screen. Must be Tobacco free. Incumbents are subject to random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continual employment. Must have vision of no less than 20/40 in each eye (with any corrective lenses) for effective visual surveillance and correct identification of surrounding environment. Candidates must not have moderate or strong impairment of depth or color perception.
