Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Tenet is seeking an attorney with a healthcare regulatory and compliance background, including expertise in federal and state fraud and abuse laws and regulations, conditions of participation, and conducting internal investigations, to serve in the role of Regulatory Counsel within the Regulatory Group of the T enet Law Department. Significant experience counseling hospitals, physician groups and academic medical centers about compliance and regulatory issues is highly desirable. Former experience as a government healthcare fraud attorney is also highly desirable. This position reports to the Assistant General Counsel of the Regulatory Team, within the Tenet Law Department, under the oversight of the Tenet General Counsel. As advisor to the Tenet compliance department, Regulatory Counsel will be responsible for understanding the daily operations of acute care hospitals and their affiliates and will be providing oversight in the review of compliance matters, statutory and regulatory issues, fraud and abuse considerations, government investigations, HIPAA, EMTALA, reimbursement and internal investigations.



Qualifications:

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Professional and Personal Attributes

  • Candidates must possess a minimum of at least seven (7) years' progressively responsible experience in healthcare law, with a preference for candidates with large health system experience and candidates with former government experience with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Department of Justice, or United States Attorney's office prosecuting healthcare fraud.
  • Preference is for a candidate with experience assisting with internal and/or external audits to health care providers and supporting and providing legal guidance to compliance teams.
  • Experience managing or responding to fraud, waste, and abuse investigations and litigation is also desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to take on multiple responsibilities while prioritizing competing projects is an essential characteristic.

Education/Certifications
A JD degree from an ABA-accredited Law School.

Employment contingent upon State licensure or registration and receipt of In-House Counsel Practice Certificate for the State in which the candidate will be primarily assigned.

Compensation
A competitive compensation program will be tailored to the selected candidate. Base salary will be supplemented by a performance bonus and comprehensive, well-rounded benefits program, which includes relocation assistance.

Travel
Approximately 5-10 percent.
