Job Description:

The Associate Attorney provides legal analysis and counsel on applicable legal authority, policy decisions and financial issues. The Associate Attorney must have the ability to plan, coordinate and direct the activities of Paralegals and Legal Secretaries within the office on assigned projects. This person will also work directly with the Clients' Board members, other consultants and vendors of such clients to plan and achieve strong outcomes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Documents: Creates, reviews and revises documents including minutes, action item lists, agendas, attorney letters, orders, resolutions and other client-related documents. Oversees final compilation.
  • Contracts: Prepares, reviews and revises contracts for Clients. Manages and performs contract negotiations.
  • Research: Collects and evaluates legal precedents and other relevant information for clients to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirement.
  • Meetings: Prepares for and attends regularly scheduled board meetings of the client. In addition, must attend conferences and regular offsite meetings.
  • Business Development: Participates in new business development with prospective clients. Completes research for prospective clients and ways to gain exposure for the firm.
  • Communication: Participates in phone conferences. Manages client issues through phone calls and email. Works with client's board members and consultants to field questions.
  • Projects: Participates in special projects such as elections and Texas Public Information Act (PIA) responses for Clients as needed.
  • Administrative: Enters time to the Firms time and billing software for self and prepares expense reports. Collects checks from the clients.

Qualifications:

  • At least six (6) months' experience in Public Law and/or Public Finance or in a law firm.
  • Licensed by the State Bar of Texas.
  • Knowledge of legal practices and terminology.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws.
  • Ability to analyze case law and provide recommendation.
  • Ability to coordinate work activities, prepare legal correspondence and documents and communicate effectively in a business environment.
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior management.
  • Experience resolving conflict between groups with opposing perspectives, agendas or priorities.
  • Ability to travel to and from client sites and designated locations to participate in client related activities and meetings, whether during normal work hours or after-hours as required.
  • Organized and detail oriented with ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of general office administrative procedures and the use and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Typing proficiency a must.
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Proficient with Windows based software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications, such as PC Law, Practice Master and Worldox.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Juris Doctor Degree

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
