JOB SUMMARY
The Project Manager/Business Analyst (PM/BA) is a dual role within Labtopia's operations that supports both Labtopia Informatix and Labtopia Solutions. Within Labtopia Solutions, the PM/BA will function as project manager on longer term projects. Within Labtopia Informatix, the PM/BA will fulfill multiple roles on projects which encompass the selection, implementation, or upgrade of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications and related technology. Within the Informatix division, this position is responsible for all aspects of client projects, specifically, LIMS requirements gathering, design, basic configuration, validation, and training related to the deployment of LIMS systems. The PM/BA is a client-interfacing position which requires a unique combination of computer systems knowledge and understanding of laboratory operations, specifically requirements of FDA/EPA regulated environments and effective communication skills. The PM/BA will manage project status, communications, team resources, the project timeline, project budget and scope.
Additionally, the PM/BA will manage the software development process within Labtopia Informatix and should be familiar the SDLC Lifecycle.
The Project Manager/Business Analyst must be self-directed, highly ethical, energetic, and be able to become familiar with the company's processes and implement improvements where applicable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PROJECT MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
. • Coordinate project initiation tasks including kick-off meetings, team introductions, resource assignments, project plan development, and execution of the statement of work.
- Ensure project communication occurs timely and accurately.
- Ensure that internal team members complete deliverables on-time and with expected quality.
- Verify project billing and manage project budget. Verify time activities do not exceed budget or time estimates. Take appropriate action if the project is not tracking according to time, budget or scope.
- Facilitate project status meetings with project team, including client team resources. Report on the progress of each project, issues, risks, resource constraints and project budget.
- Coordinate project contractors and third-party vendors. Ensure contractors and third-party vendors are meeting project timeline, budget, scope and expected quality.
- Work to design, improve and implement project management best practices, standards and IT processes within the Labtopia organization.
LIMS BUSINESS ANALYST
- Gather, analyze, and translate user requirements into formal, documented requirements and business process flows.
- Collaborate as part of an implementation team to ensure that the proposed technical design meets the client's business requirements, desired project objectives and LIMS strategy.
- Recommend implementation approach to both client and developers, based on business process, and anticipated future needs.
- Configure and customize LIMS, and related modules, to meet user requirements utilizing out-of-the box functionality.
- Translate user requirements to functional requirements and communicate these requirements to the LIMS Analysts/Developers.
- Support in projects and assist in design and configuration of LIMS solutions.
- Conducts functional testing of client configurations/customizations.
- Creates validation test scripts for execution, when required by the project.
- Develop and conduct end-user training on LIMS system.
- Assist clients in defect resolution and escalate to LIMS vendors, when appropriate.
- Support internal projects, as assigned.
- Ensure that projects are delivered on time, on budget and within project scope and to the agreed quality standard.
COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION
- Communicates in formal presentation settings including medium sized groups, internal and external project teams and business unit events; develops written communications to address varied styles and information needs.
- Must communicate timely to the customer and stakeholders on all project milestones and supporting activities.
- Draft project documentation, such as project status meting minutes, user application notes, validation scripts, etc. for both technical & non-technical end users.
ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
- Support growth of Labtopia Informatix business unit by developing and documenting policies and procedures for "best practice" client LIMS implementations.
- Establishes credibility at all levels with clients and builds problem-solving partnerships with clients and colleagues.
- Communicate in a clear and timely manner to the customer and project manager on all project milestones and supporting activities.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in science related discipline.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemistry, Engineering, Project Management or Business Management preferred.
- PMP certification is highly preferred
TECHNICAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
- Minimum five years of experience as a LIMS Business Analyst and/or Project Manager;
- Minimum five years of experience in laboratory informatics or laboratory automation work in a system administrator role, preferably with Thermo Fisher SampleManager LIMS.
- Enterprise integration experience desired, preferably with LIMS Integration experience with external systems desirable (instrumentation, chromatography data systems (CDS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, process data systems, Scientific Data Management Systems (SDMS), etc.)
- Experience in report development using tools such as SampleManager Report Designer, Infomaker, Crystal reports, desired.
- High proficiency with Microsoft products (Windows, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and Excel).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with both coworkers and clients.
- Must have the ability to work in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment across multiple time zones.
- Leadership qualities: Integrity, attention to detail, timeline sensitivity, goal-oriented, motivator, technical/analytical background.
- Effective time management through balancing multiple project responsibilities, ad-hoc customer requests and project-related activities and support.
- Persuasive with details and facts.
- Ability to write effective and concise project and process documentation.
- Must be able to understand laboratory business requirements and be conversant with laboratory terminology and processes, sample lifecycles and instrumentation. Must be able to translate requirements into IT solutions.
- Experience in regulated (GxP/environmental) or ISO 17025 laboratory environments highly preferred.
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within laboratories.
- Employee must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- U.S. Citizens or Green Card holder highly preferred. Sponsorship will not be considered.
- Employee must have valid driver's license.
WORK SCHEDULE
- M-F, 8am-5pm, flexible hours based on project or work requirements.
- Must be willing to travel and work overtime as needed to meet client needs.
- Be able to travel up to 25% when necessary.
- Texas residency required for employment. Contract applicants will be considered.
