Job description

Welcome to the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis. We are an interdisciplinary, basic science research department that conducts groundbreaking research aimed at defining the mechanisms controlling normal cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and survival as well as mechanisms controlling genome maintenance to identify the aberrations in these processes that drive cancer.

Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis

The primary purpose of the Research Investigator position is to apply technical expertise and experience to coordinate, design, and carry out research projects in the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Research Support

  • Assist the Principal Investigator with scientific research projects.
  • Function in a separate and independent manner in initiating, planning and executing experiments to meet project goals, aims or objectives.
  • Evaluate research data and interpret results.
  • Determine specific goals or objectives to be obtained.
  • Advance the aims of the project.
  • Present findings and write articles for publication.
  • Represent the lab at conferences and meetings.
  • Compile, write and submit reports to superiors.
  • Write grant proposals.

Expertise and Specialization
  • Support projects for which the incumbent is particularly qualified in terms of training and experience.
  • Provide expertise in a specific line of investigation and/or expertise in a specialized area of knowledge, skills, training or technology.
  • Evaluate research project results and develop appropriate responses to resolve problems.
  • Review scientific findings/articles.
  • Develop new approaches; introduce new technology; develop new methods and procedures.
  • Exercise considerable independence in designing, developing, revising techniques that become core technology in the laboratory.
  • Provide specialized training to laboratory personnel.

Laboratory Organization
  • Coordinate project-related work flowing through the laboratory.
  • Assign/review work of personnel working on the project.
  • May monitor project spending.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience

Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
