Overview

Cummings Electrical, a leading provider of electrical contracting services in Tyler, is currently seeking a Telecommunications Technician Electrician.

Responsibilities

• Installing, troubleshooting and repairing complex networking systems
• Ability to troubleshoot and correct telecommunications systems for: Reversals, opens, shorts, split pairs, and transposals (with reversal)
• Experience with fiber optics, patch panel and terminations
• Proficient in the installation, testing, troubleshooting & documentation of various types of telecom related cabling
• Knowledge of cabling subsystems in a commercial environment to include: Entrance facility, Backbone cabling, horizontal cabling, telecommunications room, equipment room, and work area
• Ability to read blueprints and to properly evaluate job cost including materials and labor
• Ability to troubleshoot diagnose and repair issues with fiber optic systems to include: problems with attenuation, continuity, dB loss, connectors, splices, and strength of source signal
• Ability to terminate fiber optic systems by means of mechanical or fusion splicing and obtaining proper attenuation values for each termination
• Ability to create fiber optic loss budgets to ensure proper attenuation
• Knowledge fiber optic pulling and placement with tools such as tapes, fish and rods, and de-reelers
• Ability to use all tools associated in field including cable cutters, strippers, crimpers, toner and tester, signal level meters, volt-ohm meter, receptacle testers, punch-down tool, polishing pads for fiber optic, ladders, scaffolding
• Treat client with highest degree of respect and work to develop a partnership environment
• Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed
• Required to operate a company vehicle, and will be responsible for operating it in an appropriate manner
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

• This position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Min. 5 years' experience in telecommunication systems installation and repair
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Valid Texas Driver's License with a Clean Driving Record
• Ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle as evidenced by past driving performance record
• Ability to work independently, and attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• General working knowledge of business computer skills. MS Word, typing skills, laptop computer and Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad

Qualifications

• This position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• BICSI certification or manufacturer certification is a plus
• TX Electrical License is a plus
• Must be able to pass a Federal Background Check
