Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the shared supervision of the Manager of Cath Lab and the Manger of EP, the Nurse Educator participates as a member of the Cath Lab, EP Lab and the Prep and Recovery teams. He/She is responsible for the education, development, and orientation of new staff as well as the identification, assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of educational needs for both teams. The Nurse Educator will periodically provide direct patient care and support cases to maintain clinical competency and to enhance professional practice and the provision of quality patient care. He/She will provide evidence-based quality educational programs and activities that promote professional competency for nursing, inter-professional roles within the CV Service Line Cath Lab, EP Lab and Prep and Recovery.


  • Provides for the orientation of new staff members for CV Services Cath Lab/EP Lab and Prep and Recovery.
  • Provides for the on-going education of staff members.
  • Participates in and Coordinates the Cath Lab and EP Nurse and Tech Internship Program.
  • Maintains current professional nursing knowledge/development
  • Participates in unit activities
  • Participates in staff and self-development.
  • Takes appropriate action to prevent/manage accidents in the area.
  • Complies with Universal Protocol and National Patient Safety Goals as applicable.
  • Participates in activities to keep the unit functioning smoothly.
  • Participates in performance/process improvement.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees and coordinates mentorships.
  • Completes annual department competencies.
  • Completes all mandatory education.
  • Performs other duties as delegated.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing. (3-5 years nursing experience in Cath Lab/EP)

Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

Required: Licensed in the state of Texas as a RN or hold eligible compact license to practice as a RN in the state of Texas. BLS at time of hire, ACLS at time of hire.

Preferred: Certification in specialty
