Job Description

Local Profile is looking to partner with freelance journalists who can contribute content for our website, such as local news, nonprofit and business coverage, lifestyle and leisure, food and drink, and local arts and culture. Freelancers will coordinate with the editorial team on creating content that inspires positive change and provides clear thoughtful storytelling.

You are the right person for this role if you are a skilled writer who is plugged into the Collin County community with a passion for journalism, and are able to both inform and entertain our audience.

What you will do:

• Work independently gathering story ideas, researching and producing articles under the direction of the editorial team
• Conduct research to uncover interesting and significant news
• Interview key persons (witnesses, sources, etc.) to obtain accurate information
• Obtain first-hand information by being present in happenings
• Comply with the moral code of the profession
• Take on projects assigned by the editorial team
• Respond promptly to requests for edits and suggestions
• Develop content that is consistent with the company's brand messaging

Qualifications

What we look for:

• Proven working experience as a Journalist or Reporter
• Portfolio of published articles (Please include links in your cover letter.)
• Ability to follow strict deadlines and fast-check information
• Current knowledge of headlines
• Appropriate computer proficiency
• Excellent communication and networking skills along with an aptitude in extracting information
• Good observation and deduction skills
• Integrity and morality
