Job description

Provides legal advice and services for the company, focusing on litigation services.

* Manages outside counsel representing Valero in legal proceedings and, where appropriate, appears directly as counsel.
* Advises regarding disputes or potential disputes, which have not risen to litigation.
* Investigates, evaluates, and, where appropriate, pursues claims on behalf of the company, including claims for indemnification, insurance coverage, demurrage, and property damage.
* Coordinates discovery, including the preparation of witnesses and the collection of documents and other information.
* Receives and properly handles matters for which Valero receives service of process.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

* Bachelor's or higher level degree required.
* Juris Doctorate (JD) degree required.
* Admitted to the practice of law in the relevant state or be otherwise eligible to practice law in such state required.
* 5 years experience in legal practice is required.
* Experience in relevant function with another major public corporation or a law firm preferred.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
