Responsibilities

As a Lab Assistant, you will be responsible for performing specimen processing, storage, and transport of laboratory specimens. Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), assist Medical Technologists or Medical Laboratory Technicians by processing specimens, help with inventory management, be proficient in phlebotomy and related duties, and cross-trained in all areas as determined. Also, as a Lab Assistant II, you will also be responsible for daily coordination of section assignments to ensure efficient specimen collection and processing if applicable; training and continuing education of section employees, maintaining quality assurance records, and monitoring maintenance records.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level:

* High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) &
* Completion of an approved, accredited formal training program OR
* Minimum of three (3) year relevant work experience including but not limited to training in a clinical laboratory, medical clinic, hospital, vocational school, or technical training to qualify for required Licensure/Certification.
* Preferred: Associate's Degree in a Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Chemical, Physical, Biological Science.

Licensure/Certification:

* BLS Certification (through an approved AHA program)
* One (1) of the following credentials &/or combination of experience as follows:
* CPT - Certified Phlebotomist or RPT-Registered Phlebotomy Technician through nationally recognized accredited agency (i.e. AMT, ASCP, ASPT, ABOR) &
* Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience including but not limited to training in a clinical laboratory, medical clinic, hospital, vocational school, or technical training to qualify for higher level of certification. OR
* RMA - Registered Medical Assistant through a nationally recognized accredited agency (i.e. AMT, ASCP, ASPT, ABOR) OR
* CLA - Certified Clinical Laboratory Assistant through a nationally recognized accredited agency (i.e. AMT, ASCP, ASPT, ABOR) OR
* COLT - Certified Clinical Office Laboratory Technician through a nationally recognized accredited agency (i.e. AMT, ASCP, ASPT, ABOR)

Experience:

* None - *Unless experience was substituted for higher level of required education &/or certification as detailed above.
* Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year experience in clinical laboratory work experience (i.e. phlebotomy, waived testing)
