Job description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is one of the largest charities in the DC area. The Y serves as an anchor in the community offering programs and services encompassing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The people who decide they want to be a part of the Y of Metropolitan Washington tell us they do so because it reflects their values and a conscious decision they've made about how they choose to live their lives. The happiest and most fulfilled Y associates are those who are motivated to help others and who want to be a part of something larger than themselves. If this speaks to your heart, then we invite you to join our team. Be a part of a charitable, mission-driven organization that works for individual and community well-being for all, for a better us.

Position: Lifeguard Salary Range: $13.25 - $14.00

As an organization committed to improving and protecting the health of our communities, we require all Y staff to be COVID-19 vaccinated.

Basic Job Responsibilities:

As a Y Lifeguard, you will be responsible for the safety, cleanliness, and operation of the Y swimming pool during operating hours. You will be supported in your work as a part of the leading mission-driven organization for strengthening community, and the area's largest provider of swim lessons. You will be responsible for the safety of all swimmers and the chemical conditions in the pool. You will work to safeguard the health and safety of Y members, participants, and guests. As a Y Lifeguard, you'll contribute to the Y and to the community by enhancing the well-being and safety of all.

This Work Is Right For You If You Have:

  • A love of swimming
  • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates
  • The ability to pass a swim test
  • A willingness to obtain the Y Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid certifications, if you do not currently have them.

Benefits:

Competitive compensation, 403(b) savings plan, short term and long term disability, free YMCA membership for employee, spouse and dependents, numerous professional development opportunities, and the ability to work with creative, talented and diverse individuals!
