JOB SUMMARY: The Retail Business Development Specialist is a sales role with responsibility for developing profitable new business by presenting both traditional and non-traditional bank products and services to customers and prospective customers, taking loan applications for loans within the delegated lending authority of the Branch Manager and referring larger credit opportunities, and expanding account relationships by referring customers to other bank products and services.

Supervisory: This position has no direct reports; however, it assists the Branch Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the branch.

Representative duties:

  • Executing the directives of the Branch Manager.
  • Provides ongoing customer service to existing relationships and responds to new requests.
  • Gathers customer and potential customer information; analyzes customer needs; presents suitable products; asks for the business; and closes the sale.
  • Suggests market strategies that could lead to new business.
  • Makes sales calls individually or accompanying calling Officer.
  • Serves as a liaison between the customer and Bank products and services to ensure successful outcome.
  • Maintains tickler for timely follow up for successive customer contacts and renewals.
  • Expands account relationships by referring customers to other Bank products and services.
  • Participates in community activities.
  • Promotes understanding of Bank products and services among other branch employees.
  • When the Branch manager is absent or otherwise unavailable, consults with the Branch Operations Manager to provide direction for other Branch employees and make decisions regarding Branch operations.

Experience, education, knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Meets or exceeds established goals.
  • Holds or is willing to seek an Associate's degree in business or other related field of study
  • Has two years or more of retail or other financial services experience (four years of experience will satisfy experience and degree requirement)
  • Reputation for excellence in customer service and relationship development
  • General knowledge of Bank product and services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who works well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to set priorities for completing multiple tasks by set deadlines with minimal guidance
  • Some flexibility to work outside of normal business hours required
  • Proficient in use of PC based products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Aptitude to quickly learn and use electronic banking product applications
