Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team in the Herndon, VA office.
Summary
The Legal Assistant will play an important role in supporting the company's legal matters by providing substantive support and expertise in litigation, corporate governance, contracts, technology, labor and employment, and various other matters. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated legal assistant to become an integral part of a fast-paced and collaborative in-house legal team, which values excellence and accountability.
Essential Responsibilities | Duties
- Assist attorneys in providing a full range of legal support and services to ManTech
- Provide litigation and case management support, including coordinating with outside counsel regarding data collection, assisting with responses to discovery requests, and managing the litigation hold process
- Work with in-house and outside counsel to respond to discovery requests, subpoenas, and Government requests for information (e.g., Inspector General, grand jury and third-party subpoenas; employment and business records requests; garnishment orders).
- Liaise with other internal business functions such as HR, tax, accounting, security, and contracts in support of legal operations
- Coordinate the tracking and handling of service of process issues and law firm and vendor invoices
- Assist attorneys in negotiating and drafting of contracts and agreements entered by ManTech
- Assist attorneys in corporate governance matters such as board and shareholder resolutions, entity formations, mergers and dissolutions, and maintenance of corporate record books
- Assist attorneys with domestic and foreign business licensure and other regulatory compliance
- Assist attorneys in employment matters to mitigate risk associated with hiring, discipline, discharge, and employment contracts
- Identify and implement improvements to legal operations and workflows
- Conduct legal research, manage special projects and other duties, as assigned
- Perform some administrative tasks in support of legal operations
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 3+ years of relevant law firm or corporate/in-house legal experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to professionalism
- Impeccable judgment, discretion, and integrity
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to complete tasks without extensive supervision
- Self-starter who demonstrates ownership
- Outstanding organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with executives, senior management, outside counsel, and varying levels of operations and functional support staff
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete projects under pressure
- Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams; advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program
- Corporate/in-house legal experience
- Experience with complex litigation support and e-Discovery
- Working knowledge of common collaboration tools, such as Share Point, Slack OneDrive.
- Active Virginia notary public commission
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to be in a stationary position more than 50% of the time
- Must be able to communicate, converse, and exchange information with peers and senior personnel
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer
- The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
