Job description

The Webb University Center at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Trades/Utilities Senior Worker (full time, 12 month) position. The Trades/Utilities Senior Worker will be responsible for performing skilled repair and maintenance tasks as assigned by the maintenance superintendent in maintaining the mechanical, structural, electrical and plumbing components of the building and grounds.

Required Education: None

Required Qualifications: Some knowledge of structural building components and grounds maintenance. Some skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, hand and power tools. Some general skill in a variety of building trades to include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and painting. Demonstrated ability to read/write and follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, students and staff. Demonstrated ability to perform essential physical requirements of the job, complete required paperwork, and work on call if needed. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Experience performing trades work in a commercial environment preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Training in 2 or more of the following fields: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning.

Conditions of Employment: In accordance with Executive Directive #18 issued by Governor Ralph Northam effective September 1, 2021, all Old Dominion University employees who enter the workplace or work remotely must disclose their vaccine status to the designated university personnel. Employees who are not fully vaccinated or who refuse to disclose their current vaccine status, must undergo weekly COVID -19 testing and disclose weekly the results of those tests to designated university personnel.

Position is considered essential, therefore may require work during holidays, university closings, inclement weather, nights, and weekends.
